Rebecca wanted to get this over with quickly. Time was tight, and she was eager to wrap things up as soon as possible.
With the top legal team from Wye & Associates on her side, victory was practically guaranteed. After a fierce courtroom battle, it didn’t take long for the judge to hand down sentences to Byron and Katherine.
Byron was found guilty of attempted assault and sentenced to ten years in prison. Katherine, as an accomplice, was given three years.
They had the first-rate legal team to thank for that outcome. When Wye & Associates showed up in court, it was never just an empty threat—losing everything or spending decades behind bars was a real possibility.
Hogan and Jane lost the case. Watching their daughter sobbing uncontrollably, the couple felt as if their whole world had collapsed.
After the trial, Rebecca stepped out of the courthouse.
Hogan and Jane hurried after her. “Rebecca! Stop right there!” Hogan shouted.
They tried to rush forward, but the security guards blocked their way before they could even get close.
Jane, eyes red with tears, pointed at Rebecca, her voice shaking with rage. “You’re heartless! How could you be so cruel and send Kathy to prison?”
Rebecca remained calm. “She was the first to betray me. I’m just returning the favor. Besides, she broke the law. Was it wrong for me to make sure she faced the consequences?”
Jane’s hatred boiled over. “If I’d known you’d turn out to be such an ungrateful brat, we never would have taken you in. The Foster family raised you, and this is how you repay us?”
Now they wanted to talk about gratitude, as if they hadn’t been the ones to cast her out in the first place.
Rebecca replied evenly, “I’ve never denied that you took me in. But you were the ones who abandoned me. You told me yourself—I wasn’t your daughter anymore, and you kicked me out of your home.”
If they’d forgotten, she had no problem reminding them.
