Jane gritted her teeth. “We’re just telling the truth—she slept around and got herself pregnant.”
Alan snapped, “But wasn’t all of this Katherine’s doing in the first place?”
Jane faltered, suddenly at a loss for words.
Hogan took a deep breath and stepped forward. “Alan, none of us knew what was really going on. Whether Kathy did those things or not, it’s only because she cared about you so much. She’s still just a kid—she can’t spend years in prison. For the sake of our families’ history, can’t you help us? Please, try to find a way to get Kathy out.”
He knew the Browns had connections with that influential man in Wye. If Alan stepped in, maybe there was still a chance.
But Alan just let out a cold laugh.
He was seething with anger. In his mind, Katherine had ruined his happiness—if it weren’t for her, he would’ve been with Rebecca long ago. So, of course, he wasn’t going to lift a finger.
“She did something that low, she deserves to be locked up. This is the punishment she asked for!” he spat, then turned and walked away.
Hogan and Jane stood there, crushed by despair.
……
Rebecca sat in the backseat of the car on the way back. The lawyer beside her said, “Ms. Thomson, the Fosters aren’t going to let this go. Hogan said he’ll spare no expense to get Katherine out on bail.”
Rebecca let out a cold laugh, eyes flashing with contempt.
Katherine was their precious daughter—of course they’d throw money at the problem.
But as long as she kept up the pressure, Hogan could sell off Hogan Corp. and still not have enough to buy Katherine’s freedom.
“Don’t let him get her out so easily,” Rebecca said calmly. “If he insists, make sure it costs him dearly.”
Hogan cared most about his reputation and money. This time, he’d lose both—he’d be miserable.
