Mrs. Austin looked at Garcia with suspicion. She felt Garcia was hiding something, but she didn’t have the energy to press the issue right now.
“Garcia, it’s not for any of those reasons. It’s because you lost your composure at that important banquet. Now, the entire high society of Wye is laughing at you. I can’t let you be the one to have Dylan’s child.”
Garcia was speechless.
She hadn’t expected Mrs. Austin to be so selfish, abandoning her simply to protect the Austin family’s reputation.
Was the family’s image more important than an heir?
Or did this mean Mrs. Austin was already looking for a new woman to replace her?
Garcia immediately demanded, “Then who do you want to have Mr. Austin's child? Surely not that vicious woman, Rebecca?”
Mrs. Austin frowned. “Of course I won’t let my son be with someone so ruthless. As for the child, I’ll find another way. For now, you should just focus on your recovery.”
Mrs. Austin gave Garcia’s hand a perfunctory pat.
After all, there was no shortage of women willing to bear Dylan’s child. She couldn't risk everything on Garcia alone.
Garcia's face turned deathly pale. “Ma'am, you can't do this to me. I can't lose Dylan. I can't live without him.”
Mrs. Austin gently pulled her hand away. “Garcia, it’s not that I won’t help you. It's that Dylan has absolutely no interest in you. I’ve already done more than enough for you.”
Tears streamed down Garcia’s face. “Ma'am, please, just give me one more chance. Please help me…”
Just then, a knock came at the door, and a nurse walked in. “The patient needs to rest. Visiting hours are over.”
Mrs. Austin stood up. “Garcia, you get some rest. We can talk about everything else later.”
With that, she walked out of the room.
