The Genius Ex-Wife’s Revenge Portfolio novel Chapter 101

David nodded and led Ella to their room.

Ella glanced at him, uncertain. "What did the innkeeper mean about things you have to pay for?"

David glanced at her, taking in the way her innocent eyes searched his face, full of honest curiosity.

He turned away without replying.

They stepped into room 503. The place was tidy, but there was only one bed.

Ella lowered her gaze, her lashes almost sweeping her cheeks. Just one bed. How were they supposed to sleep tonight?

"Ella."

David called her name from behind.

It was only the second time he’d said it out loud.

She turned to face him. "Yeah?"

Suddenly, she remembered. "Oh, what did you want to ask me earlier in the car?"

"You..."

David started, but before he could finish, his phone chimed.

He checked the screen. Jessa had sent him a photo.

It was a picture of her when she was a kid.

David stared at it. As a little girl, Jessa really did look a lot like Ella.

He hesitated, reading the message that came with it. "Found this while going through old albums today. Do you still remember that version of me, Davy?"

So, he’d gotten it all wrong. Jessa was the girl from back then. Ella just happened to look like her as a child. It was only a coincidence, a trick of memory.

He almost laughed at himself. How could he have confused the two? What had he been thinking? Ella wasn’t the girl from the past.

"David." Ella’s voice brought him back.

He glanced up. "It's nothing. I’m going to take a shower."

"Okay."

Maybe he thought she was just pretending not to know.

Ella squirmed in her seat, feeling awkward.

Then she noticed something else next to the condoms. Black, netted fabric. She had no idea what that was supposed to be.

She snapped a picture and sent it to Fiona, who texted back right away. "Ella, seriously? Those are fishnet stockings!"

Fishnet stockings?

Fiona sent a winking emoji. "So, does he like that kind of thing?"

Ella didn’t reply. How was she supposed to know?

A new notification popped up.

Fiona had sent a voice message.

Ella pressed play, and Fiona’s excited voice filled the room. "Ella, you have to put on those fishnets and show David tonight. Go seduce him!"

Ella was still listening, her face burning, when she realized the bathroom door had opened. She looked up and found David’s eyes locked on hers.
