She kept calling his name, her voice so sweet and enticing that the stranger couldn’t help but glance back, again and again. She was the kind of girl who made you want to look twice. With a scowl on his handsome face, David finally gave up and walked back.
Ella was already in bed when he returned. David stared at her, clearly annoyed. “Why were you yelling? Trying to summon some ghosts or something?”
Ella just stared at him, speechless. She had only meant well.
“I’m going to take a cold shower,” David muttered, disappearing into the bathroom.
He came out a few minutes later, lifted the covers, and slid into bed beside her. Silence settled over the room. From the next door, the muffled sounds of a couple flirting drifted in, their laughter soft but still loud enough for David and Ella to hear every word.
David felt the urge to get up and take another cold shower. He started to move the blanket, ready to escape again.
But then Ella moved. She’d been on the very edge of the bed, as far away from him as possible, but now she scooted over. Her slender body pressed right up against his, warm and impossibly soft.
The scent of her hair and skin filled his senses.
David froze. They were both adults. In this kind of atmosphere, her move was anything but innocent. She was basically throwing herself into his arms.
He looked down at her. “What are you doing?”
Ella looked up at him, her eyes wide and impossibly bright. “What do you think?”
David swallowed hard. Right then, his phone started buzzing. He checked the screen. Jessa was calling.
He answered, and Jessa’s voice came through, as demanding as always. “David, why haven’t you answered my message?”
She’d sent him a childhood photo earlier, and he’d forgotten to reply.
“I’ve just been busy…”
He didn’t get to finish the sentence. Ella wrapped herself around him, climbing into his lap and pressing her lips right to his throat.
