The press conference had just wrapped up when David slid into the back seat of his Rolls Royce. His voice was smooth and deep as he spoke to Aiden up front. “Let the media know I don’t want anything about Ella getting out.”
Aiden nodded, keeping his voice low. “Don’t worry, sir. Some of the female reporters already stepped up and deleted every photo and video of her. They won’t be reporting anything about Mrs. Harmon.”
A faint smile tugged at David’s lips. “She really does know how to charm people.”
“She is incredibly brave,” Aiden added, sounding genuinely impressed.
David raised an eyebrow. She really was.
He pulled out his phone and dialed a number.
“Hey, Uncle.”
David’s uncle, Mr. Alberto Lynch, was the president of Central College, one of the top universities around. He was obsessed with medicine, and everyone showed him the utmost respect.
Mr. Lynch’s voice came through the phone. “David, this is a surprise. What made you think of calling me today?”
“I need a favor.”
“Go on. I’m curious what it is if you’re asking me personally.”
“I want to send a girl to your university.”
“What girl?”
“Her name’s Ella. I want her in the medical program.”
“Ella… isn’t that your stand-in bride? Since you’re asking, have her come to Central College tomorrow. I want to see for myself who this bride of yours is.”
In a private room at a five star hotel, Peter was having dinner with Mr. Scott, Mr. Lewis, and Mr. Zuck.
The last time they’d all been together, at Grandma Jill’s eightieth birthday, things had gotten embarrassingly out of hand. It had taken Peter a lot of effort to get these three business leaders to agree to this dinner.
Peter lifted his glass. “Mr. Scott, Mr. Lewis, Mr. Zuck, thank you for joining me tonigh.”
The three men raised their glasses too. “Mr. Irvine, everyone knows your precious daughter is dating Mr. Harmon. Soon enough, you’ll be his father in law.”
They were really only here because of David. Thanks to him, the Irvine family had been climbing higher and higher these past few years.
Peter grinned at the mention of it. He knew the press conference was happening at that very moment. Any minute now, Rachel would call, and he’d officially be David’s future father in law.
Peter laughed. “Very soon. When the time comes, drinks are on me.”
