Everyone finished their drinks in one go.
Just then, the TV in the private room switched to a news broadcast. The anchor held a microphone and spoke, “Today, police arrested a suspect for child molestation and attempted rape. An accomplice was also taken into custody.”
On the screen, Mike appeared with a black hood over his head as he was led into a police car. Rachel followed right behind him.
The three executives didn’t know Mike, but they definitely recognized Rachel. They exchanged glances, surprised. “Mr. Irvine, isn’t that Mrs. Irvine on TV?”
What?
Peter froze, the wine bottle still in his hand. He turned to look at the television.
Sure enough, it was Rachel on the screen.
His face drained of color as he stood there, completely stunned.
The anchor continued, “I have to give it to this suspect. At her age, she’s still willing to sell out her daughter and grovel with all her might. She really goes all out…”
Peter’s jaw clenched.
The three executives looked uncomfortable. They stood up to leave.
Peter tried to stop them. “Gentlemen, please, wait…”
Mr. Scott, along with Lewis and Zuck, gave Peter a strange look and smirked. “Mr. Irvine, your charm is really something. We could never compete with you.”
With that, they all walked out.
That night, Old Bootlicker Rachel became the talk of the town, and Peter’s name was dragged right along with hers. Among his peers, he was now the punchline of every joke.
He slammed his glass onto the floor, shattering it. His expression was cold and furious.
Right then, his phone started ringing. It was Jessa.
“Dad, it’s bad. Something happened. The press conference was a disaster, Mom got arrested. You need to bring a lawyer and bail her out, please.”
…
Outside the police station, late at night.
