The Genius Ex-Wife’s Revenge Portfolio novel Chapter 117

Inside the hospital’s VIP room, Jessa’s leg had already been taken care of by the doctor.

David watched the doctor closely, his voice tense. “Is her leg seriously hurt? Will it affect her dancing in the future?”

The doctor reassured him, “Mr. Harmon, there’s no need to worry. We just looked at her X-rays. She’s lucky, it’s just a surface wound. Nothing’s wrong with her bones or tendons. As long as she rests, she’ll be able to dance again.”

Once the doctor left, David felt something small and warm slip into his palm. Jessa’s hand had found his, her fingers curling around his.

Jessa stared up at him, her face pale but her eyes steady. “David, I’m really okay. You don’t have to be so stressed out.”

He had been too anxious. Jessa could tell, and even though she had expected it, her heart still fluttered with a secret sweetness.

“Why did you throw yourself down the stairs?” he asked out of nowhere.

Jessa froze for a second, but then her expression softened. She knew there was no point in lying to him. She never planned to anyway.

“David, haven’t you noticed how distant you’ve been lately? I don’t feel your love anymore. I feel so insecure.”

David couldn’t deny it. He had pulled away from Jessa ever since she tried to use his grandmother. She just didn’t seem like the girl he once knew, the one who clung to him in that cave all those years ago.

And for some reason, he kept finding himself drawn to Ella. There was just something about her that made it impossible to look away.

That night at the inn when thunder crashed outside, he’d even slept with her.

Now, seeing Jessa like this, his chest tightened with guilt.

He sat on the edge of her bed and lowered his voice. “But you shouldn’t have thrown yourself down the stairs. What if you’d really messed up your leg? Would you give up dancing just like that?”

It was true. He and Ella had shared a room, even a bed.

Whenever he was near Ella, he always lost control. He couldn’t resist her, not even for a moment.

But it wasn’t right.

Jessa was the one he loved, the one he wanted. He couldn’t keep giving Ella the chance to tempt him.

It had to stop.

David hugged Jessa a little tighter. His voice was soft, soothing. “I’ve already arranged for Ella to go to Central College. She’s staying in the dorms. We won’t be sharing a room anymore.”
