What?
He’s sending Ella to school? And it’s Central College?
Has he lost it?
Central College is top tier. How could Ella belong there?
Jessa’s expression shifted. “David, Ella quit school when she was sixteen. She’s just some girl from the countryside. Besides flirting with men, what else does she even know how to do? What makes her qualified for Central College?”
David didn’t reply. He just stared at Jessa, his gaze steady and unyielding. There was no room for argument here. He’d already made up his mind about sending Ella to Central College.
Jessa was sharp enough to realize it. They’d just made up, and she didn’t dare pick a fight with him now.
Anyway, someone like Ella would only end up embarrassing herself at Central College. When that happened, David would be even more fed up with her. Jessa didn’t have to do a thing—she could just sit back and watch the drama unfold.
She smiled at him. “Alright, David. Whatever you say.”
David reached out and pinched her nose gently. “Good girl.”
Jessa giggled and snuggled into his arms, content.
…
Ella went back to the Harmon family’s old house, waiting in her bedroom for David to come home.
It was late when headlights finally swept across the lawn outside. David pulled up in his Rolls Royce, only just getting back.
He must’ve stayed at the hospital with Jessa, no wonder it was so late.
The bedroom door opened a moment later, and David walked in, a chill trailing behind him from the night air.
Ella looked up at him. “How’s Jessa?”
David strode in, tall as always, and started unbuttoning his suit jacket. “Just some scrapes. Nothing serious.”
Ella didn’t look surprised. “Of course. She’d never let herself really get hurt.”
