The Genius Ex-Wife’s Revenge Portfolio novel Chapter 128

Jessa leaned in, hoping for his kiss.

David paused, taking in her face, soft and radiant like a rose in full bloom. There was a gentle sweetness about her that Ella could never match. Ella only seemed to get under his skin and stir up his temper, but Jessa… Jessa soothed him in ways he didn’t quite understand.

He slowly tilted his head down, closing the distance…

...

At the bar, Ella and Lilly were tipsy and laughing, their cheeks flushed from a couple of drinks. When they finally decided to call it a night, they stepped outside, looking for a cab.

But this street was packed, and taxis were almost impossible to come by.

Ella thought for a second. “Hey, what if we just grab a couple of bikes and ride home?”

Lilly smirked, eyebrow arching. “No need for that. I’ll call my cousin and have him send a car.”

“You have a cousin around here?” Ella blinked.

Lilly gave her a mysterious little wink. “Sure do.”

Ella hesitated. “It’s late though, maybe we shouldn’t bother him.”

Lilly was already dialing. “Oh, I’m not worried. He’s probably off somewhere having fun with his side piece anyway. I might as well give him something productive to do.”

Ella’s jaw dropped. “Wait, your cousin has a mistress?”

Lilly rolled her eyes. “Yeah, he’s married, but he can’t stand his wife. Keeps some shameless girl on the side. Classic jerk move.”

Ella was stunned. She had never imagined Lilly’s cousin was that kind of guy. And the wife’s story… it hit a little too close to home. Sometimes, you meet strangers whose heartbreak feels just like yours.

She watched as David nodded along, his tone reassuring. “Alright. I’ll send a car for you now.”

He hung up. Just as he did, Jessa slipped behind him, wrapping her arms around his waist, her fingers tracing the hard lines of his torso, desperately trying to pick up where they’d left off.

But David gently pried her hands away and turned to face her. “Let’s save this for another time. I have to get back to the office. I’ll have someone drive you home.”

Jessa’s face fell. She couldn’t hide her disappointment. But David’s expression was closed off now, the spark in his eyes gone.

She silently cursed herself for messing up her lipstick. She knew men like David noticed every little detail, and the smallest slip could put them off.

She remembered the last time, at Briarwood Estate. He’d wanted her, she could feel it, but he still wouldn’t go through with it.

Now, it felt like he was starting to pull away, his warmth slipping further out of reach.
