The Genius Ex-Wife’s Revenge Portfolio novel Chapter 135

Fine, whatever.

Her right foot was suddenly caught in his hand. She felt a jolt, a rush of embarrassment. That spot was way too sensitive for a girl. She tried to pull away, struggling. “Let go!”

David finally realized something was off. He glanced at her, then let go.

She instantly tucked her foot beneath her skirt, hiding it out of sight.

David sat up straighter, trying to sound businesslike. “I’ll have someone take care of the whole thing.”

Ella pulled her knees up to her chest, shaking her head. “Thanks for the offer, but I don’t need your help.”

David shot her a look. “Ella, don’t be so ungrateful. Do you think I actually want to get mixed up in your mess?”

“Then don’t. From the second you kicked me out of the Harmon mansion, my problems stopped being any of your business.”

The tension in the room was thick enough to choke on. David looked like he was about to lose it.

Ella raised an eyebrow, her clear eyes flicking over him. “Didn’t Jessa keep you busy last night?”

David stiffened.

“If she did, why are you here? You just want to help me so I’ll owe you again, right?”

His mind flashed back to that night in the thunderstorm, to the secret only the two of them knew.

He helped her. She paid him back.

David stood up fast. “I must be out of my mind for coming here.”

He tossed those cold words over his shoulder and strode out.

He was gone.

Ella hugged her arms around herself. David, I don’t need you to worry about me. Don’t be nice to me anymore. Just stay cold and heartless. That’s what I need from you.

I don’t want your charity.
