The Genius Ex-Wife’s Revenge Portfolio novel Chapter 167

She had no idea how many people were out there whispering about her.

Maureen was proud, maybe even a little stubborn, and nothing got under her skin faster than being talked about behind her back.

“Grandma, Dad, Mom, I honestly don’t even know how things got so out of hand,” she blurted.

Logan and Ruby both looked panicked. “Maureen, you didn’t upset Dr. E, did you?”

Grandma Jill smacked her thigh in frustration. “This is a disaster. Dr. E is practically a legend when it comes to medicine. She’s not someone we can afford to cross. What do we do now?”

Ella stood off to the side, arms crossed, watching the whole family work themselves into a frenzy over Dr. E. She didn’t say a word, just took it all in.

Maureen’s eyes were rimmed red, clearly shaken.

That’s when Ruby suddenly spoke up. “Maureen, do you know if Dr. E is really a lady? Maybe they are a man?”

Logan caught her meaning right away. “Wait, are you saying...?”

Ruby leaned in, looking hopeful. “If Dr. E is a man, well, Maureen is gorgeous and smart. He’d have to fall for her as soon as he met her, right?”

Grandma Jill instantly switched from doom and gloom to beaming. “That’s right! If Maureen becomes his wife, our family would finally get a stroke of luck. Dr. E as my eldest son-in-law, and Mr. Harmon as my second, I’d be the happiest woman alive.”

The truth was, Logan and Ruby had been on the lookout for a good match for Maureen for ages. They weren’t about to let Jessa’s side of the family outshine them, so they’d had their sights set on Dr. E for a while.

He was the only one who could stand toe-to-toe with David Harmon.

Maureen felt a flutter in her chest. She’d always liked David, but everyone knew his heart belonged to Jessa. Maureen had promised herself she’d find someone just as amazing as he was.

Dr. E checked all the boxes.

She flashed a confident, almost smug smile. “Grandma, Dad, Mom, I have an inside scoop. Dr. E is already here in Rockford Bay.”

“Really? Where is he?” Grandma Jill and the others leaned in, curiosity written all over their faces.

“Don’t worry about that. I’ll track him down. Just wait for my news,” Maureen said, lips curling into a little smirk.

The whole family brightened up in an instant.

She needed something nice, but not too personal, so Atlas wouldn’t get the wrong idea.

After looking around for a while, she finally picked out a classic leather wallet.

Gift bag in hand, she caught a cab to Atlas' birthday party.

...

Atlas'birthday bash was at a private winery. He’d booked the swankiest suite, inviting all the big names from their social circle for the occasion.

David and Jessa were already there. Jessa handed over her gift with a smile. “Happy birthday, Atlas.”

Atlas'presents were piled up on the sofa, nothing but high-end brands as far as the eye could see.

Cedric and Sarah crowded in, eager to get things started. “Atlas, is the party on now?”

Atlas glanced toward the door. “Hang on. My most important guest isn’t here yet.”
