David slipped his arm free from Jessa’s grip, his voice flat and distant. “I’ve been drinking. I can’t drive. I’m heading back to the office. You’ll have to get home on your own.”
Aiden pulled up in the Rolls-Royce. David climbed in and left without looking back.
Jessa stood there alone, but she wasn’t upset. If anything, she felt pretty pleased with herself.
Sarah stomped over, her face twisted in frustration. “Jessa, did you hear? Ella actually wrote a love letter to Atlas, trying to seduce him. She’s unbelievable.”
The thing was, Ella hadn’t actually written that letter. Jessa had asked Cedric to do it, but she hadn’t bothered telling Sarah any of that.
Her plan was simple. Get Ella and Atlas together and make Sarah hate Ella even more.
“Sarah, Ella doesn’t deserve Atlas, but you know how guys are. They’re always chasing after the ones they can’t have. Trust me, Atlas will be bored of her in no time.”
That was exactly what Jessa believed. She was just waiting for the day Atlas dumped Ella.
Guys like David and Atlas might get dazzled by a pretty face for a minute, but it never lasted.
Ella was just a country girl who’d dropped out of school at sixteen. Once the novelty wore off, guys would lose interest in her fast.
Sarah nodded, though she still didn’t look happy.
Jessa squeezed her shoulder. “Sarah, you’re like a little sister to me. I promise I’ll help you get together with Atlas.”
Sarah’s expression brightened. “You’re the best, Jessa.”
She hugged Jessa, who gave her a quick, practiced smile in return.
Just then, Cedric sauntered over. “Everyone’s coupling up lately. Maybe it’s my turn.”
Jessa and Sarah immediately perked up, crowding around him. “Cedric, who’s caught your eye?”
Who could possibly interest Rockford Bay’s most notorious troublemaker?
Cedric smirked, dropping his voice like it was a big secret. “That genius apprentice.”
Jessa froze.
In the chat, Genius Girl W had answered with just one word. Scram.
…
Back at the office, David stood by the window, tall and silent, his mind stuck on Ella’s delicate, perfect face.
She’d written a love letter to Atlas.
When she flirted with Atlas, she’d hit his chest with her fist, playful and seducing.
Last night, she’d offered him her half-eaten ice cream over video chat, asking if he wanted some. Today, she was sharing desserts with Atlas.
David let out a cold, quiet laugh. So, when she couldn’t get his attention, she turned to Atlas instead?
Using the same moves she’d tried on him?
His phone buzzed with a new message.
