David scrolled through his messages and saw a new post from Atlas pop up on social media.
It was a photo taken on the Central College athletic field. No faces, just two shadows stretching across the ground. One was delicate and graceful, the other tall and confident. Anyone could tell it was Ella and Atlas.
Atlas had captioned it, [Best birthday gift.]
The post blew up instantly. Their usual crew couldn’t resist chiming in.
[Atlas, it’s your birthday. Why are you behaving? Go wild tonight.]
[Strolling around campus? Atlas, the presidential suite is ready for you.]
[You guys are clueless. Atlas is staying over at the girls’ dorm tonight.]
[Dating a college girl, huh? That’s gotta be a rush.]
David stared at the comments, a tightness building in his throat. He thought of Ella’s dorm room, her little pink bed with the heart-shaped pillows. He’d slept there with her just days ago.
They’d shared that bed together.
Was Atlas going to sleep there tonight too?
David dropped his gaze, his eyes clouded. He and Atlas were the two most sought-after men in Rockford Bay, the ones no girls could pin down—until now. Both of them had ended up in Ella’s bed. You had to admit, she was impressive.
Just then, Aiden walked in. He caught sight of David’s icy expression and treaded carefully.
“Boss, are you upset about Mrs. Harmon and Atlas?”
David tugged at his shirt collar, not bothering to answer.
Aiden hesitated, then said, “Honestly, I don’t think you need to worry. You’ve always liked Jessa, right? So it doesn’t really matter who Mrs. Harmon’s with. Plus, you gave Atlas the green light to chase her. Now that he’s actually with her, you seem… well, not too happy about it…”
Aiden’s words trailed off as David looked up, his eyes sharp.
Aiden set down his files. “I’ll just… head out.”
[Come out.]
Just those two words. No explanation, just a command.
Ella typed back, [I’m on campus.]
[Look up.]
Her eyelashes fluttered as she glanced up and spotted a black Rolls-Royce Phantom parked outside the school gate. That was David’s car.
He’d actually driven to the college.
The car gleamed under the streetlights, sleek and imposing, like it owned the night. It had already caught the attention of every girl passing by. Heads were turning everywhere.
It wasn’t uncommon to see luxury cars outside the gates at night, but a Rolls-Royce was on another level. The girls were whispering, eyes wide with excitement.
And it wasn’t just the car. The license plate was ridiculously rare, something you almost never saw in Rockford Bay.
