David’s car suddenly swerved toward Ella, trying to force her off the track.
But Ella didn’t back down. Instead, she steered right into the challenge, her car’s side scraping along the wall and throwing up a trail of sparks. In one smooth move, she drifted and caught up to David without missing a beat.
Her driving was incredible. It turned heads.
David watched her, momentarily distracted. The wind whipped through her long hair, making it fly out behind her. Some strands tangled against her pale cheeks and neck, and for a second, he couldn’t look away.
She glanced at him over the top of her sunglasses, then slowly lifted her hand and flipped him off.
He couldn’t help but grin. Damn.
A low laugh rumbled from David’s chest. Watching her like this was making his heart race in a way he couldn’t ignore.
He’d always thought of Ella as that country girl who followed him around, always causing a little chaos.
But then there were times like this. She was clever when she needed to be, ruthless when they played games together, and right now, she was bold and fearless behind the wheel. Every side of her made him want to know more.
He wondered which version of her was the real one. She was a mystery he couldn’t solve.
David had started the attack, so it was only fair that Ella fought back. She spotted an obstacle up ahead and jerked the wheel, determined to overtake him.
But David hit the gas, using the slope to give his car a boost. He flew forward and landed right beside her, keeping pace.
Ella glanced at him. David just shrugged, as if to say, “Bring it on.”
A smile tugged at Ella’s lips, her eyes bright with excitement. Game on.
Racing like this, feeling the adrenaline, it was addictive.
The two cars sped side by side, impossible to ignore as they tore down the track.
In Ella’s passenger seat, Atlas let out a whoop. “Ella, I had no idea you could drive like this! David must be losing his mind. He’s never had anyone keep up with him until you came along.”
Ella just smiled.
David instantly slowed the car.
At that moment, Ella shot ahead, crossing the finish line first.
She won.
David pulled over and helped Jessa out. She seemed better, but she was still pale.
Ella and Atlas climbed out of their car. A staff member from the resort handed Ella the key card for the Diamond suite.
Ella took it and flashed David and Jessa a dazzling smile. “David, Jessa, thanks for the game.”
Jessa bristled. “You—”
Ella didn’t even pause. She turned and walked away, her confidence impossible to miss.
Jessa was left speechless, so angry she could hardly breathe.
