The fun had moved on from racing to a full-on display of wealth.
And when it came to money, nobody in Rockford Bay could beat David Harmon. Losing just wasn’t in his vocabulary.
Jessa looked up at him, her face perfectly sweet, practically begging him with her eyes to buy it for her.
David glanced at Jessa, then over at Ella.
Ella’s eyes were clear and steady, watching him quietly.
Jessa tugged on his arm, her voice soft and playful. “David, would you get it for me, please? I really want it.”
David turned to the shop owner. “I’ll pay double.”
Just like that, he was buying it for Jessa.
Jessa lifted her chin and shot Ella a proud little smile, like a peacock showing off. Her look said it all. See? David bought it for me.
Atlas jumped in right away. “Come on, David, that’s no fun.” He looked at the owner. “I’ll pay triple.”
Atlas was buying it for Ella.
Ella glanced at him. “Atlas, it’s fine, really—”
Atlas grinned. “No way. I want to buy it for you. You’ll wear it for me, won’t you?”
David’s brow tightened, just a little. “Four times.”
“Five,” Atlas shot back.
Now it was a full-on showdown between the two of them.
“Six,” David said, his voice calm but firm.
Atlas looked like he was about to say more, but Ella stopped him. “Actually, Atlas, I don’t think I like the pink one anymore.”
She pointed to a bright magenta bikini hanging nearby. “I want that one instead.”
The owner hurried to grab it for her. “Great choice, miss.”
Ella and Fiona headed off to the women’s changing room.
Jessa was left there, pink bikini in hand, totally stuck. Keeping it felt awkward, but tossing it away felt even worse. Sarah didn’t look any happier, her face twisted in envy over Atlas buying a bikini for Ella.
…
Out at the hot spring pool, David and Atlas were already there, relaxing in the water. Jessa and Sarah arrived a minute later.
Sarah grinned at David. “Get ready. Jessa’s on her way.”
David looked up.
Jessa stepped out in the pink bikini. All those years of dance showed in her curves and posture, and her long, wavy hair framed her face perfectly. She looked like a living, breathing rose.
Every guy in the pool turned to watch her all at once.
Jessa felt the attention, but she was used to it. She’d grown up surrounded by admiring eyes. This was nothing new.
