The Genius Ex-Wife’s Revenge Portfolio novel Chapter 186

David’s body boxed her in, his presence at once protective and overwhelming. They were tucked away where no one else could see, and when he offered to buy her something, Ella got the strangest feeling—like they were sneaking around, like she was his secret lover. But she was his wife, for crying out loud.

“I don’t want clothes,” she said, voice just above a whisper.

“Ice cream, then?” David suddenly held out a cone.

Ella blinked, surprised. The cone was strawberry, her favorite.

“When did you get that?” she asked.

“Just now.” His tone was casual, but she knew he had been watching. He must’ve seen her eyeing the ice cream truck earlier.

Ella looked down, her lashes hiding the surprise in her eyes. She hadn’t expected this small gesture from him.

David lifted the cone closer to her lips. “Come on, try it.”

She looked up at him, her eyes bright but defiant. “I don’t want any.”

She was lying, and he knew it. She’d looked so eager before, running after the vendor with eyes shining.

David’s gaze turned heavy, a teasing heat simmering beneath the surface. “Then what do you want? Want a taste of…”

Ella’s eyes went wide. She slapped her hand over his mouth before he could finish.

What was he about to say? The man had no filter.

Her palm stayed there, soft and warm, and David just curved his lips into a grin beneath her fingers. “My hand? Didn’t know you liked biting so much.”

Ella just stared at him, too flustered to come up with a comeback.

David moved her hand away, his smirk only growing. “Ella, what was going through your head just now? Why do you always think of the dirtiest things?”

Right then, a voice echoed down the hall. “Ella! Ella, where are you?”

It was Atlas, finished with his call and searching for her. Jessa and Sarah trailed behind, clearly looking for David.

Ella quickly stepped away from David. “Atlas is here.”

David watched her pull away, his mouth tightening. Without a word, he pressed the strawberry ice cream into her hand.

She tried to give it back, but it was too late. Atlas, Jessa, and Sarah had already appeared.

Atlas hurried to her side. “Ella, what are you doing out here? I’ve been searching everywhere.”

Jessa and Sarah went straight to David. Sarah immediately noticed and pointed. “Ella, where’d you get that ice cream?”

Jessa’s eyes landed on the cone too. She’d planned to be the center of attention today, but now Ella was stealing her spotlight. “Wow, Ella, you really are something,” Jessa drawled, her voice edged with contempt. “Atlas steps away for five minutes and you already have another guy buying you ice cream? So, who is it, Ella? Who’s your mystery man?”
