The Genius Ex-Wife’s Revenge Portfolio novel Chapter 198

Grandma Chelsea paused for a second, then quickly put on a smile. “Alright, Ella. Stay with your friend for now. You can always come back to have dinner with me when you have time.”

“Okay, Grandma.”

They hung up.

Grandma Chelsea glanced over at David. He was still buried in his business newspaper, his face unreadable.

She asked, “David, did you and Ella have a fight?”

He didn’t look up. “No.”

Grandma Chelsea let out a small laugh. “So, do you know this friend of hers? Is it a boyfriend or a girlfriend?”

David stayed silent.

She reached over and grabbed the newspaper from his hands. “Did you know you’re holding this upside down?”

Only then did David notice. He pressed his lips together, but said nothing.

Grandma Chelsea sighed, then stood up. “I know you’re always with Jessa. But nobody waits forever, David. Once Ella’s had enough disappointment, she’ll leave. If you don’t cherish her, there are plenty of guys out there who will. If she really walks away one day, don’t say I didn’t warn you.”

Just then, Felix came over. “Madam, has Mrs. Harmon come home yet? Dinner’s ready.”

“Ella’s not coming. I’m not hungry anymore.” Grandma Chelsea walked upstairs alone.

Felix could feel the tension in the room. He looked at David. “Sir, why isn’t Mrs. Harmon coming home? She hasn’t been back since she started college. Your grandma talks about her every day. This house just isn’t the same without her. It’s been so long since she smiled.”

Felix sighed and left as well.

David sat by himself on the couch. He loosened his tie, looking stormy and distant. He pulled out his phone and opened his chat with Ella. His long fingers typed out a message: Why didn’t you come home?

Monica looked at Ella, waiting nervously for her reaction, wearing a hopeful smile.

Ella took a bite and nodded. “Your mom is really talented, Monica. These are so good.”

Monica’s face lit up. “I’m so glad you like them. I’ve got to go to my shift at the Royal Hotel now. I’m working as a waitress there. See you later.” She grabbed her bag and headed out.

Lilly had to go to class, so she left too.

Ella stayed behind, sitting alone on her chair. Her phone rang.

It was Maureen.

Ella picked up, and Maureen’s excited voice came through right away. “Ella, guess what? I have amazing news! I finally met Doctor E!”
