The Genius Ex-Wife’s Revenge Portfolio novel Chapter 199

Ella was left speechless.

Maureen’s voice crackled through the phone, all excitement and breathless energy. “Ella, can you believe it? That legendary Doctor E is actually a man! And he totally fell for me the moment we met. We’re dating now!”

Wait, what?

Ella stared at her phone, completely confused.

“I can’t talk right now, but you need to come back to the Irvine house in a couple of days.” With that, Maureen hung up.

Ella let out a sigh. Clearly, Maureen had fallen for some kind of scam.

She decided to let it go for now and headed for a hot shower. Just as she stepped out, her phone rang again. This time, it was Monica.

“Ella?” Monica’s voice was shaky, barely holding back tears. “Can you help me? Something bad happened. I don’t know what to do.”

Ella gripped her phone, instantly alert. “What happened, Monica?”

“I’m working as a waitress at the Royal Hotel. This guy, Mr. Johnson, picked me out and told me to go to his room tonight. I got scared and ran into the bathroom. His bodyguards are right outside. I don’t want to do this. I didn’t know who else to call. I don’t have many friends… I’m so scared.” Monica’s voice broke.

“Monica, listen to me. Stay where you are and don’t leave the bathroom. I’m coming to get you.”

“Thank you so much, Ella.”

Ella hung up and rushed out the door, heading straight for the Royal Hotel.

...

When Ella arrived, she found the women’s restroom. Just as Monica said, two men in black suits stood outside the door. Ella kept her head up and walked right past them, acting like she belonged there. Inside, she found Monica sitting on the floor, hugging her knees, her face blotchy from crying.

“Ella, you really came.” Monica’s relief was almost a whisper.

Ella knelt beside her and squeezed her hand. “It’s okay. I’m here now. We’re getting out of here.”

But just as they reached the end of the hallway, Monica suddenly stopped. “My bag! I left it in the bathroom. I have to go back. My tips are in there.”

“Monica, don’t. It’s not safe,” Ella said, grabbing her arm.

“I have to!” Monica pulled free and ran back.

“Monica, wait!”

At that moment, Mr. Johnson showed up with his bodyguards. He looked to be in his forties, slicked hair, expensive suit, and an oily smile that made Ella’s skin crawl.

“There you are, Monica,” he said, eyes narrowing. “Grab her, clean her up, and send her to my room.”

The bodyguards lunged for Monica. She froze, terror written all over her face.

Ella stepped in front of her, pulling Monica behind her. Her voice was calm but sharp as ice. “Stop right there. What do you think you’re doing?”
