David told her it was over between him and Ella.
Jessa could barely contain her joy. She flew into David’s arms, holding him tight. “David, I get it. Ella knows how to get a guy’s attention. I’m not mad that you were a little interested in her. I always knew you wouldn’t leave me. I’m the one you really love.”
David did catch feelings for Ella, but the girl he loved most was still the one from that cave. His girl, Jessa.
He wrapped his arms around her, holding her close.
Peter watched them, his face full of relief. All he ever wanted was for Jessa to be happy. If she was, then he was too.
Rachel looked pleased, though when Ella crossed her mind, her expression darkened for a split second. She never imagined that a girl straight from the countryside could catch even a bit of David’s interest.
That little bitch.
…
Ella hurried to the hospital, only to find Atlas already packed up and ready to leave.
“Atlas, I’m so sorry. Something came up and I’m late.” Ella’s apology was sincere.
Atlas smiled at her. “It’s alright. Let’s head out.”
“Okay, let me take your bags.”
She reached for his luggage, but it was heavier than she thought. Her whole body ached and she felt weak, so when she tried to lift it, she lost her balance and tripped.
“Ella, careful!”
Atlas moved in a flash, catching her by the waist. They both tumbled onto the hospital bed, with Atlas landing right on top of her.
Just then, someone appeared in the doorway. It was David.
Jessa and Atlas were in the same hospital, and today was Atlas’ discharge. David had come by to see Atlas, but as he got to the door, he saw Atlas and Ella in what looked like a pretty intimate position on the bed.
David froze.
He could still remember exactly how Ella had turned him down the night before, but now here she was, in the same with Atlas.
He let out a cold laugh.
At that moment, a nurse came around the corner with a supply cart. “Excuse me, please move!”
Ella couldn’t get out of the way in time. The cart hit her arm hard.
“Ella!” Atlas rushed over, steadying her. “You’re bleeding!”
Her arm had scraped against the cart, and blood was already starting to drip down.
When she looked up, David was gone. He had completely disappeared from view.
Ella lowered her gaze and stared at the blood on her arm, feeling numb.
…
Back in her dorm room, Ella lay on her bed and messaged her best friend, Fiona.
“Fiona, I have a friend who slept with her husband for the first time. But since then, he hasn’t called her or even talked to her. Why would he do that?”
When it came to love, Ella was still clueless. David was her first and only man. After being with him, his coldness left her lost and hurt. She had no idea what was going on in his heart.
