Fiona got arrested?
Ella felt the blood drain from her face. She hung up and turned to Lilly. “Lilly, I have to go to the police station.”
“I’m coming with you,” Lilly said right away.
…
At the police station, they found Fiona behind bars. Ella rushed over and grabbed her friend’s cold hands. “Fiona, what happened? Why are you here?”
Fiona looked pale and lost. “Ella, it has something to do with Monica.”
She explained everything. “Monica came to Vogue for a photoshoot that needed wire work. Someone cut the wire before the shoot, and Monica fell. Right after it happened, Monica pointed at me and said she saw me cut the wire. That’s why the police arrested me.
“Ella, you have to believe me. I didn’t do it. I would never hurt her. I barely even know Monica. Why would I do something like that?”
Fiona was completely confused. Monica’s accusation came out of nowhere, and suddenly Fiona was being treated like a criminal.
Lilly shook her head, just as lost. “Who would cut the wire? If it wasn’t you, why would Monica blame you? You two don’t have any issues, right?”
Fiona let out a frustrated sigh. “Exactly. I’ve never done anything to Monica. Why would she do that to me?”
A thoughtful look flickered in Ella’s eyes. She squeezed Fiona’s hand and spoke gently. “Don’t worry, Fiona. I’m going to talk to Monica myself. Once she tells the truth, you’ll be out in no time.”
Ella and Lilly left for the hospital. On the way, Lilly looked troubled. “Ella, why do you think Monica would frame Fiona? She’s your best friend.”
Lilly was just starting to see what Ella had suspected from the beginning, but Ella didn’t say anything.
…
The assistant froze, awkward and silent.
Monica lifted her gaze to Ella, making it clear she wanted Ella to do it.
Lilly started to protest, but Ella stopped her. “It’s okay. I’ll get it.”
Ella poured a glass of water and handed it to Monica.
Monica gave a cold smile. “Thanks, Ella.”
She reached for the glass, but her face changed in a heartbeat. She knocked it right out of Ella’s hand, splashing water all over Ella’s hand and clothes. “This water is boiling. Are you trying to burn me?”
Lilly quickly grabbed some tissues and tried to help Ella dry off. “Monica, what’s wrong with you? You’ve been taking jabs at Ella this whole time. Are you picking on her on purpose?”
