“Enough. Just stop it!” Ella cut him off, her voice sharp. She didn’t want to hear another word.
David let out a cold laugh. He wanted her to hear everything. He wanted this to stick with her, to remember that she was the one who turned all of this away.
She didn’t want it, so he gave it all to her classmate.
He let go of her suddenly, his voice cold and biting. “Fine. Divorce it is. We’ll do it tomorrow. If it weren’t for Grandma, I would have kicked you out of the Mrs. Harmon spot a long time ago. There are plenty of women lining up for it.”
Ella’s heart ached so much it felt like she could barely breathe. She curled her slender fingers, blinking back tears. “I’ll see you at the civil office tomorrow at nine.”
She said it and walked off without looking back.
David watched her go, his face cold and unreadable. Fine. Divorce it is.
He’d wanted to let things end between them for a while now anyway.
This marriage should have been over a long time ago.
Just then, his phone rang, the sound echoing in the quiet. It was Aiden.
“Boss, Monica fell from a wire rig today. The person who cut it is still in police custody. Monica doesn’t want to let her go. She wants her locked up forever.”
David’s mood was already at rock bottom. He had no patience left for Monica’s drama. “Let her handle it however she wants.”
“Understood, boss.”
…
In the girls’ dorm, Lilly was pacing and furious. “Wait, what? Mr. Harmon is Monica’s sugar daddy? He’s the one throwing all this money and resources at her? Has he lost his mind?
“Did he forget he’s married? Wasn’t Jessa enough for him? Now he’s got Monica too. Does he not realize Monica is your classmate? This is so disgusting.
…
Early the next morning.
Ella left Central College and headed straight to the civil office.
She and David had agreed to meet there at nine to sign the divorce papers. She didn’t want to wait even a minute longer.
Mr. Lambert, the lawyer Wyatt had found, was already on his way to the police station. As soon as she and David finished the paperwork, she’d go straight there.
Half an hour later, Ella arrived outside the civil office. She stood there waiting, and soon, the familiar Rolls-Royce Phantom pulled up. David had arrived.
She never thought their marriage would end like this.
Today, it was finally over. She and David were getting divorced.
