Ella’s words faded into a whisper. “That night, you didn’t even use one.” David barely heard her. The only thing that stuck with him was what she said before that—she didn’t want to take birth control pills anymore.
He went right back to the memory of her collapsing from an allergic reaction after taking pills for Atlas. A cold, mocking smirk curled on his lips. “If you could take them for another man, why not for me?”
What was he even talking about?
When had she ever done that for someone else?
He’d accused her before, blamed her for sleeping with other men, and she’d swallowed every bit of it. But he already knew that night had been her first, and he still found a way to hurt her.
Ella couldn’t hold it in. She punched him, her fist small but sharp with anger.
She still resented him. Part of her hated him.
David didn’t dodge. He let her hit him. Then he caught her hand, his fingers wrapping around hers, and just held on as he led her away.
“Wait, I haven’t bought condoms,” she muttered quietly.
David stopped, his eyes moving to the shelf lined with small boxes. “One more chance. Pick again.”
Under his steady gaze, Ella reached out and grabbed the largest size, her fingers trembling just a little.
She was being good now—and he noticed.
David gave a quiet, dismissive laugh, then tugged her to the checkout, paid, and pulled her back to the car.
Sitting in the plush leather of the Rolls-Royce, Ella checked the time. Half an hour to Bellemont Manor. That was more than enough.
She looked over, trying to keep her voice even. “Let’s just go straight to Bellemont Manor.”
David’s eyes lingered on her, his gaze tracing every line of her delicate face. Then, out of nowhere, he said, “Come sit on my lap.”
She’d been teasing him since she set foot in Harmon Corporation. She hadn’t let up, not even for a second. He’d wanted to put her in her place for a while now.
Ella frowned, her hands wrapping around his wrist. Her fingers brushed the cool steel of his watch. She tried to push him away. “David, you’re hurting me…”
Her voice came out thin and fragile, laced with something soft, something that made his heart twist. Suddenly, David was struck by a memory.
That dream.
For a moment, it felt more real than any dream. It was like it had actually happened, the feeling from that night coming back in a rush, sharp and overwhelming.
David’s eyes never left her. “Even if it hurts…” he said softly, “you’ll just have to bear it.”
Then he leaned in and kissed her, rough and deep, pouring out all the frustration and longing he’d been holding back. Ella was swept up, caught in the force of him, left breathless and wanting more.
