The Genius Ex-Wife’s Revenge Portfolio novel Chapter 269

But today felt different. No matter how long she waited, David never showed up.

Her anxiety grew with every minute. She kept calling him, over and over again, but all she got was that cold, robotic voice telling her the number couldn’t be reached and to try again later.

David wasn’t answering her. He was ignoring her.

Jessa’s patience snapped. She flung her phone at the wall, her pretty face twisted with frustration.

“Jessa, calm down. Getting worked up is bad for your heart,” Rachel said, trying to soothe her.

Jessa shoved Rachel away. “How am I supposed to stay calm? Monica is completely useless. I thought her fake pregnancy scheme was perfect. We were supposed to set things up so Monica’s baby would die because of Ella, and then Ella would never recover from it. But Monica couldn’t even do that right.”

She pressed her lips together, angry and panicked. “Now David knows that the woman from that night was Ella. He must have gone to her. He’s with her right now, I know it.”

Jessa had always been terrified David would find out the truth about that night. And now her worst fear had come true.

After all these years together, she and David had never slept together. Ella was his first.

People always say a man never forgets his first woman. That thought terrified her.

Rachel looked just as upset. Nobody had expected Monica to mess up so badly.

Now David was with Ella. It was the first time he’d ever chosen not to be with Jessa. That was not a good sign. Not at all.

“Mom, I’m scared. What if David finds out what really happened in the cave all those years ago? What if he realizes I was never that girl, and it was always Ella he was looking for?”

Rachel’s face went pale. “Jessa, shhh.”

Jessa stopped short and clapped her hand over her mouth. Thankfully, they were safe at home and no one else could hear them.

“What do you mean?”

Rachel leaned in close and whispered a few words in Jessa’s ear.

...

The morning sun crept in through the window.

Ella blinked awake, her body aching all over like she’d been hit by a truck. She was curled up in someone’s arms, warm and strong.

David was still asleep, his arm wrapped around her, holding her against his chest.

Ella looked up at his face, so handsome and calm even in sleep. Who would have thought he’d end up spending the night with her in a college dorm room? The most untouchable man in Rockford Bay, now lying on her bed with its girlish, pink heart sheets.
