They all wanted to see Ella crash and burn, but instead, she completely turned the tables on them. Unbelievable.
David watched as Ella walked away. His eyes were dark, impossible to read, and he pressed his lips into a thin line. “Alright, that’s enough. Stop it.”
Jessa went quiet, swallowing the anger burning inside her. “David, you said you’d introduce me to Allie tonight. Where is she?”
She hadn’t forgotten what mattered most. She needed to marry David as soon as possible.
David had spotted Lilly earlier. He lowered his voice, “I’ll go find her.”
Jessa quickly handed over the limited-edition purse she had brought. “Here, David. Give this to Allie. She’ll love it.”
…
When Ella didn’t come back from the restroom for a while, Lilly started to worry. She got up to look for her.
Just then, David called out. “Allie.”
Lilly didn’t even look at him. She just turned and kept walking.
David stepped into her path. “Allie, you’re getting really rude. You don’t even call me anymore.”
Lilly was Mr. Lynch’s daughter, but she used her mother’s last name. That’s why, no matter how hard Jessa and Sarah tried to dig, they never figured out that Lilly was actually Allie.
Mr. Lynch had her late in life, and because of the birthmark on her face, the whole Lynch family, including David, spoiled her.
Lilly shot David a glare. “How could you treat Ella like that? Do you even know how sick she got after the divorce? She had a fever of 107. For a whole week. She was crying in her sleep…”
David’s eyes flickered, and he cut her off. “That’s enough. Don’t say another word.”
Lilly stopped short.
David’s face was blank, his voice cold and steady. “We’re divorced. I don’t want to hear anything about her.”
Lilly’s eyes widened. “You just divorced Ella and now you’re marrying Jessa?”
Jessa was always the one he was supposed to marry. Then the car accident happened. He became a vegetable. Ella entered his life.
Ella was just a detour.
Now the detour was over. It was time to marry Jessa.
David nodded. “Yes. I’m marrying Jessa.”
Lilly didn’t know what to say. In the end, she gave in. “Fine. Give me the bag.”
David handed it to her.
Lilly looked at him and said, “Alright. If you’re dead set on marrying Jessa, then she’ll be my new cousin-in-law. I’ll be her friend.”
