Blind dates?
The energy in the room dropped instantly. David reached up and popped open the top button of his shirt.
The phone chimed again and again. Fiona was blowing up his messages, voice notes coming in rapid fire.
They played automatically, her voice echoing through the quiet.
“Ella, check out this one. Gym guy, eight-pack abs. Like what you see? You could use his abs as a pillow every night.”
“How about this one? Total sweetheart, a shy nerd type. Looks like he’d be a lot of fun.”
“And here, business elite. Dark and brooding. Want to make him kneel and sing a love song for you?”
“Ella, these are all yours. Take your pick.”
David just stared at his phone, silent.
His lips pressed into a tight, cold line. He honestly had no idea Ella had a whole lineup of guys chasing after her.
Right then, Ella sent back a voice message. “Okay, I’ll be there soon.”
She turned around and saw David standing behind her.
Ella handed him a piece of paper. “David, this is Grandma’s herbal tonic recipe. Boil it on high heat for an hour every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. Make sure she drinks it while it’s hot.”
David glanced at the paper. So that was what she’d been writing just now.
Her handwriting was neat and delicate, a list of herbs he didn’t recognize.
He looked at her. “You know medicine?”
“I’ve studied a bit,” Ella answered, sounding totally casual.
David didn’t take the paper. “Just to be safe, I’ll have a doctor check this formula.”
