The Genius Ex-Wife’s Revenge Portfolio novel Chapter 31

David went still.

Ella was right beneath him, her long dark hair fanned out across the sheets. The whole room looked like something out of a movie, the bedding a bold red that made her skin practically glow. His grandmother had picked out every detail herself, making the place feel almost too perfect, too intimate. For a second, the thought hit him—what if she ever looked like this with someone else?

His hand clenched tight. He wanted to say something, to explain that he’d only sent her medicine, not some guy.

But nothing came out.

Ella looked straight at him. “Move.”

She didn’t want him near her.

When David stayed put, Ella started to push him away, squirming beneath him. The memory of him bringing Jessa home last night was still burning in her mind, making her want nothing to do with him.

“David, get off! You were just with Jessa last night. Did you even bother to shower?”

He grabbed both her wrists and held them down, his voice low and cold. “Ella, stop it.”

She ignored him and fought even harder.

Pinned beneath him, her body twisted and writhed, soft and delicate against his solid frame. Through the thin fabric of their clothes, every movement sent sparks between them.

David remembered the way she’d acted last night, the way she’d clung to him and kissed him like she couldn’t get enough. He remembered all of it—and desire flared up inside him before he could stop it.

Ella noticed the change right away. She froze.

Her eyes were wide and shining with surprise. “Are you…”

He cursed under his breath, let go of her, and sat up fast. “No.”

Ella pushed herself up too. “But I could feel…”

David sat there, chest heaving, anger and frustration swirling inside him. It felt like a storm he couldn’t shake off.

What was so bad about his kissing, anyway?

Why did she always have to bring it up?

He let out a bitter laugh. He knew exactly what she was doing—trying to get a rise out of him, daring him to prove her wrong, just like before. She always played these little games.

David was sure of one thing. Ella was all beauty and no substance. She just wasn’t his type. Her might get aroused, but it was just a normal reaction. Nothing more.

Just then, his phone rang, the ringtone bright and cheerful. Jessa’s name flashed on the screen.

David took a breath, forcing himself to relax. “Jessa.”

Her voice came through, lively and sweet. “David, you have to come out tonight. We’re at the club. Atlas is back in town—did you forget we’re throwing him a welcome party?”
