David rubbed his forehead. He really had forgotten.
Atlas Moore was back in town.
The Harmon and Moore families had always ruled Rockford Bay. They were old money, practically royalty around here, and their kids grew up together like siblings. David and Atlas had been best friends since they could walk.
Atlas had just flown in, and tonight, Jessa, Cedric, and Sarah were all waiting for him at Club 1996.
Sarah’s voice rang out, bright and excited. “David, hurry up and get here!”
Sarah had been crushing on Atlas forever. She used to say her biggest dream was to marry him, but honestly, Atlas had standards sky high. He barely ever looked twice at anyone.
David just said, “I’m on my way.”
He stood, rolling his shoulders. Why should he care if Ella was out with other guys tonight?
Why did that even bother him?
She was just some country girl. Chasing after men seemed to be her only hobby. So shallow.
She was nothing like Jessa.
If she wanted to play around, let her. She could be with whoever she wanted.
…
Later that night, a Ferrari tore down the highway, engine roaring.
Fiona leaned back in the passenger seat, hair flying in the wind. “Ella, where did you get this car?”
Ella was driving, her face half-hidden behind oversized black sunglasses. The wind whipped through her long hair, wild and untamed. She looked completely free. “David gave it to me.”
Hearing that, Fiona’s annoyance with David faded just a little. “Okay, he’s still a total jerk, but you have to admit, he’s ridiculously generous. Checks, sports cars, houses… it’s like he doesn’t even care.”
Ella just smiled. She couldn’t argue with that.
