Lilly was gorgeous, the kind of beauty that came from a life of privilege, soft and bright like she’d never known a harsh day. Without the birthmark, you could see a tiny beauty mark just under the corner of her right eye. It made her even more striking, almost like a real-life barbie doll.
Seriously. The whole room seemed to hold its breath. The girl everyone had called plain had turned into an absolute stunner.
No one was more shocked than Jessa and Sarah. Their eyes went wide. Was the birthmark really gone?
How could that even happen?
Ella pulled her hand back and smiled. “All done.”
She handed Lilly a small mirror. “Take a look, Lilly. Meet the new you.”
Lilly took the mirror, staring at her reflection. Was that really her?
She lifted her hand, touching her right cheek. The shock and confusion swirled inside her. Then, all at once, her eyes filled with tears.
Some nights, when she couldn’t sleep, she would wonder what she’d ever done to deserve a life like this.
With tears streaming down her face, Lilly looked at Ella. Ella’s eyes sparkled with warmth and pride. “See? You are a true beauty now,” she said softly.
Lilly wanted to wrap Ella in a huge hug.
But just then, Lucas’s voice broke the moment. “This is impossible!”
Lilly turned toward him.
Her delicate face, all soft curves, caught Lucas completely off guard. He was frozen in place.
So Lilly wasn’t ugly at all.
She was… pretty.
Lilly looked right at him, a hint of a cold smirk on her lips. “Lucas, I finally see you for who you are. I don’t want any more drama with you. Our engagement is over. Let’s just go our own ways from now on.”
She turned to leave.
And now Lilly was leaving him behind to chase after Jace?
She actually had a thing for Jace?
Lucas’s hands curled into fists at his sides.
Lilly caught up with Jace. “Hey, Jace!”
He glanced back at her, his face completely unreadable.
He was so cold.
Lilly smiled, that tiny beauty mark making her look even sweeter. “Jace, don’t you remember me? It’s Lilly.”
She barely got the words out before someone grabbed her wrist. She spun around and saw Lucas’s face, his expression dark with anger.
“Lilly, what are you doing?” he demanded, jaw clenched tight.
