The snow had finally stopped in Seacore City, but the docks were still soaked and bitterly cold. Jessa and Cedric stood side by side, the wind biting through their coats while a sleek yacht rocked gently at the water’s edge. A man dressed all in black hauled Ella’s limp body onto the deck, dropping her like she weighed nothing at all.
Cedric’s eyes darted from Ella to Jessa, his voice low and tense. “Jessa, why did you have her brought here? What did you do to her?”
Jessa’s brows pulled together, her tone sharp. “Cedric, are you really questioning me right now? I don’t like this. You’ve changed. It’s like you’re starting to hesitate. Are you falling for her?”
“It’s not like that.”
“Then tell me, do you still see me as your sister-in-law?”
Cedric nodded without hesitation. He’d always admired Jessa, always thought she and David were meant to be. “Of course I do.”
“Then prove it. You hate Ella, don’t you? She’s unconscious. Take her out on the yacht, get far from shore, and push her into the sea. Make sure she’s gone for good.”
Cedric’s breath caught. All those times Jessa had threatened to make Ella disappear, he thought she was just blowing off steam. He never believed she meant it.
He stood frozen in place. “Jessa…”
“So now even you won’t help me?” Jessa’s voice shook. “You and David have both been fooled by this manipulative bitch. I can’t believe this.” She pressed a hand to her chest, breathing hard.
“Jessa, what’s wrong?”
“My heart hurts. Cedric, just answer me. Are you going to help me or not?”
He stared at her, at the pain on her face, and finally nodded. “Alright, Jessa. I’ll do it.”
He climbed onto the yacht. The engine rumbled to life, and soon, the boat was gliding away, swallowed by the gray horizon.
A slow, satisfied smile curved Jessa’s lips. She knew Cedric would listen to her in the end.
…
“Jessa, if David finds out what we tried to do to Ella, have you even thought about what happens next? I won’t go through with it. I’m bringing her back.”
Before she could say another word, the call ended.
Jessa’s hand clenched around her phone, her pretty face twisting in anger. Cedric had gone against her. He was bringing Ella back.
The man in black leaned closer, his voice barely above a whisper. “What should we do now?”
Jessa’s eyes turned cold and hard. “I’m not letting Ella come back. If Cedric’s loyalty is slipping, then he can go down with her.”
If she couldn’t control him, she’d destroy him herself.
She pulled out a small remote, pressed the button, and watched as a digital timer started counting down.
Three minutes left.
