She had planned everything ahead of time, secretly ordering someone to plant explosives on the yacht.
Now the countdown timer for the bomb was ticking down.
When three minutes were up, the explosives would go off.
Jessa stared out at the endless sea, her thoughts icy and sharp. Cedric, don’t blame me for this. You made your choice. Your heart’s already with Ella, so you can just disappear with her.
...
On the yacht, Cedric was getting ready to head back to shore.
Suddenly, a huge wave crashed over the side, sending a spray of cold water across Ella’s face.
Her long lashes trembled. Ella woke up, blinking.
She pushed herself up and looked at Cedric. “Cedric, where are we?”
A dull ache pulsed at the back of her head and she winced.
Cedric turned toward her. “Ella, you’re awake?”
Ella’s mind raced as she took in the endless, open water. Her eyes instantly turned cold. “Cedric, why did you bring me out here?”
Cedric shook his head. “Ella, what do you think this is? That I’m trying to hurt you? Listen, it was Jessa who told me to bring you here. I might not like you, but I would never go that far. I’m taking you back now.”
Jessa again?
Ella couldn’t figure out why Jessa was always so ruthless. She and David were already divorced, and David had always loved Jessa. What more did she want?
Right then, Ella noticed a small device with a blinking red light. There was a countdown on it. “Cedric, what’s that?”
Cedric’s face went pale. “That’s a bomb. Why would there be a bomb on the yacht?”
Ella’s heart dropped. The timer was already at thirty seconds.
Thirty. Twenty-nine. Twenty-eight...
Ella grabbed Cedric’s arm. “There’s no time. The bomb’s about to go off.”
Cedric muttered a curse. “So what do we do?”
Where could she be?
A wave of anxiety crashed over him. Something was wrong. He could feel it.
He rushed back to the resort and ran straight to Ella’s room, number 608. He lifted his hand to knock.
The door wasn’t locked. It swung open as soon as he touched it.
He stepped inside, calling her name. “Ella?”
His words caught in his throat when he saw her phone lying on the carpet.
A moment later, Luke appeared in the hallway. “Ella? Mr. Harmon, why are you here? Where’s Ella?”
David picked up the phone, his face dark with worry. “Something’s happened to her.”
Luke froze. “What?”
Without another word, David hurried out, shouting down the hallway. “Somebody! I need help over here!”
