Ella and Cedric waited around for David. His team had already shown up and surrounded the village, so they should have been able to leave without a hitch. But David was missing. They checked the time, glanced around, and wondered where he had wandered off to.
“Where is David? Why isn’t he here yet?”
Right then, David finally appeared, looking sharp as ever.
“David, what took you so long?” Cedric asked, curiosity all over his face.
David didn’t answer. He just grabbed a tissue and wiped his hands. Ella’s eyes caught on the blood smeared across his knuckles.
Aiden came over. “Sir, we’re ready to head out.”
David nodded. The group made their way onto the yacht and set off.
“David… No…”
Ella heard someone crying. She turned and spotted Gina, running along the shore, tears streaming down her face as she watched them leave.
“Mr. Harmon, did you break that girl’s heart? She really seemed to care about you,” Ella teased.
David gave Ella a cool look. “If you want that kind of love, it’s yours.”
Ella had no words for that.
…
Back in Seacore City, Luke and the rest of their classmates were waiting. Luke rushed over, worry all over his face. “Ella, are you alright? You vanished out of nowhere. We were all so scared.”
Ella shook her head. “I’m fine, really. Everything is alright.”
“Seriously, what happened? How could you just disappear like that?” another classmate chimed in.
Before Ella could explain, someone flung herself into David’s arms, clinging to him. “David, you’re finally back. I was so worried about you.”
Ella left with Luke and the others, while David could only stand there, trapped by Jessa’s grip, watching until Ella was out of sight.
Jessa burned with jealousy. She hadn’t expected Ella to make it out alive.
Finally, David pulled away from her. “Jessa, let’s go.”
He got into the car.
Jessa spotted Cedric nearby and hurried over, putting on her most concerned face. “Cedric, are you okay? Did you hurt your leg?”
Cedric looked straight at her. “Jessa, what was that bomb on the yacht about?”
Jessa didn’t miss a beat. “Cedric, the bomb was set for Ella. The timer had already started. I thought you’d be back before it went off, but you weren’t. You and Ella went down with the explosion. I was so worried. I even begged David to go find you.”
Cedric didn’t reply. He just stared at her, not sure whether to believe her or not.
