Rachel huffed, “Ella, don’t even try to deny it. You totally followed Mr. Harmon here.”
Jessa piled on, her voice sharp. “You’re so sneaky, Ella. You even know David lives on the ninth floor. Are you obsessed or just crazy?”
Ella turned to David, looking genuinely confused. “Mr. Harmon, you live on the ninth floor?”
David nodded toward the door labeled 901. “I live here.”
“Oh,” Ella replied, like it was no big deal. She headed over to the door marked 902, punched in a code, and the lock beeped softly. The door swung open.
Jessa, Maureen, and Rachel stared, mouths hanging open. Ella lived in 902? She really lived in the Stellaris Apartments, literally right across from David?
Ella stepped inside her apartment, but before she closed the door, she glanced back at them. “Guess you were right. David and I really are neighbors.”
She shut the door behind her.
Rachel let out a shaky breath, completely stunned. How did Ella get so lucky? One day she’s nobody, the next she’s driving a luxury car and living in a penthouse. Was this even the same Ella?
Jessa turned to David, her eyes wide with disbelief. “David, did Ella actually buy an apartment in the Stellaris? Right across from you?”
David stared at the closed door of 902, his brows drawn together, obviously confused. He hadn’t spoken to Ella lately. He had no clue about any of this.
Jessa was getting worked up. “David, how much money did you give her? Look at her, blowing through it like it’s nothing. First a fancy car, now a luxury apartment. What’s next, is she gonna buy a plane? Maybe a yacht? Is she planning to fly to the moon?”
Ella was just a small-town girl. Even Jessa herself couldn’t afford a Rolls-Royce or a place at the Stellaris, so why could Ella?
