Logan and Ruby couldn’t have been happier with Doctor E as their future son-in-law.
Maureen, though, looked pale. She pulled out her phone and dialed Doctor E’s number. The call went through, and she brightened. “Hi...”
But all she heard was a cold, robotic voice. “Sorry, the number you have dialed is not in service.”
Her heart skipped a beat. She called again.
Same robotic response. “Sorry, the number you have dialed is not in service.”
Starting to panic, Maureen switched to her messages and tried to text Doctor E.
The message wouldn’t send. A red exclamation mark popped up.
Doctor E had blocked her!
His number was disconnected. She couldn’t message him. The man who’d been whispering sweet words to her just yesterday had vanished into thin air. Now, no matter what she tried, she couldn’t reach him at all.
Her phone slipped from her hand and landed softly on the carpet. Maureen felt all the energy drain from her body. She sank to the floor like a balloon losing air.
“Maureen, what’s wrong?”
“Maureen, why are you sitting on the floor? Get up.”
Logan and Ruby rushed over to help, only to realize Maureen was ice-cold, her whole body trembling.
She couldn’t stop shaking.
…
Ella and Wyatt stepped outside together. Wyatt laughed. “Ella, the Irvine family is crazy. Did they really think they could snag Doctor E and turn him into their personal jackpot? How did they even come up with that?”
Ella raised an eyebrow. “I tried to warn them, but they just said I was jealous. If they end up losing all their money and dignity, that’s on them, not me.”
Wyatt grinned. “Just wait until they find out who Doctor E really is. That’s going to be something.”
Ella smiled, and just then, her phone buzzed. It was a message from Lilly.
Lilly: [Ella, Mr. Lynch is taking us out to dinner tonight.]
