The question caught Ella completely off guard. Honestly, she hadn’t figured out what she wanted to do about the baby yet. She rested her hand on her flat stomach, trying to sort through her feelings. The thought of ending the pregnancy just felt wrong. This wasn’t only David’s child. It was hers, too.
David didn’t want the baby. Did that mean she had to give it up as well?
Fiona leaned in, her tone gentle but firm. “Ella, if you want to have this baby, then go for it. We’re not hurting for money. So many women nowadays choose to be single moms. If Mr. Harmon doesn’t want to be involved, even better. Just cut him out and we’ll raise the kid ourselves. I’ll be the godmother.”
Lilly nodded, backing her up. David might be her cousin, but if Ella wanted to keep things quiet, she would never say a word. She was all in on supporting Ella, no matter what. She trusted Ella to make the right call, because Ella never made decisions lightly.
“I’ll be a godmother, too,” Lilly added with a grin. “This baby might not have a dad around, but she’s definitely going to have more moms than anyone else. And, let’s be honest, David is a jerk, but the man’s got great genes. A baby from you and him? That kid is going to be a knockout.”
Fiona laughed. “Exactly! Remember that news story? The one about that rich girl who married a genius from Havard, invested like thirty million in his business, got pregnant, then divorced him right after? She basically paid for his genes. So, Ella, you’re coming out ahead here. You should totally have this baby.”
With both Fiona and Lilly cheering her on, Ella felt something ease inside her. She ran her hand over her stomach and, for the first time, things felt clear. She wasn’t short on money. She was young. If she wanted a baby, she could have one. She was winning at life.
Ella nodded, her decision firm. “Alright. I’m keeping the baby.”
Lilly immediately swept Ella’s wine glass off the table and swapped it for a glass of milk. “You’re VIP now, Ella. Pregnant ladies only get the best treatment.”
Fiona shot Ella a mischievous look. “Honestly, Ella, you scored big with David. Fantastic genes, and I bet he’s even better in bed.”
Ella had just started drinking her milk and nearly snorted it out. She glared at Fiona. “Shut up.”
