David looked around at the place. “The decor here must have cost a fortune.”

Ella just lifted a brow. “So what?”

“All of this paid for by Wyatt?”

“Yep. My boyfriend paid for everything. He bought the fancy car, he bought the apartment, all I had to do was show up with my bags.”

David pressed his lips together, and for a second he said nothing. Then his gaze landed on something on the coffee table.

“What’s this?” he asked, moving closer.

Ella followed his eyes, and her heart skipped. Sitting right there on the table was a pregnancy test.

She reached for it, but David was quicker. He already had it in his hand.

He studied the test, then looked straight at her. “Why do you have a pregnancy test?”

Ella glanced at it, relief washing over her. Thankfully, it was unused. There were no red lines, nothing that would give her away. If he saw proof she was pregnant, she wouldn’t be able to hide it anymore.

He didn’t want kids anyway. He’d made that clear, and she had no intention of telling him.

Honestly, Ella had no idea how he’d react if he found out. Would he want her to keep the baby? Or would he just tell her to get rid of it? She wasn’t sure, and she wasn’t willing to take the chance.

“Ella, why aren’t you saying anything? I asked you why there’s a pregnancy test here.”

David’s eyes were sharp, locked right on her.

She kept her voice even. “What do you think a pregnancy test is for?”

David closed the space between them, his steps slow and deliberate.
