All David wanted was to see Doctor E.
He sat there, tense and silent, his mood growing darker with every passing minute.
Maureen checked her watch and tried to sound reassuring. “Mr. Harmon, she’s probably just running late. Doctor E’s been off the grid for three years. No one really knows what she’s been up to.”
Doctor E’s disappearance had become the biggest mystery in the medical world. People still whispered about it. No one knew why she vanished for so long.
By the door, Ella waited quietly, her thoughts racing. *Come on, David. I’m here, just like we agreed. You saw me walk in. Jessa, Maureen, and Sarah can all vouch for me.*
But David didn’t even glance her way. His face stayed cold and unreadable.
Maureen cleared her throat. “Mr. Harmon, I’ll start by checking on Jessa.”
…
Twenty minutes later, David and Maureen stood outside the exam room. Maureen’s white silk blouse and black pencil skirt made her look sharp and polished, and she faced the man in front of her with total confidence. “Mr. Harmon, based on my exam, I think Jessa’s heart problem comes from an atrial septal defect and a patent ductus arteriosus. It’s an acquired defect, but surgery should fix it.”
David’s gaze was steady. “Is there a risk?”
Maureen’s lips curled into a flirtatious smile. “That depends on the details of the surgery. Tell you what, Mr. Harmon, why don’t we swap numbers? That way, you can reach me anytime.”
She pulled out her phone, ready to add him to her contacts.
Ella lingered nearby, watching with a small, knowing smile. It was pretty obvious Maureen had more than medicine on her mind.
Seriously, what was it about David Harmon? Even the Irvine family’s two most admired women seemed to fall for him.
