Jessa spun on her heel and walked away.

Ella frowned, trying to figure out what Jessa was up to. Before she could think too much, Sarah’s scream echoed through the hallway. “David, something’s happened!”

Ella whipped around and hurried back. She saw Sarah clutching David’s arm, her face pale and frantic. “David, someone took Jessa!”

David’s whole demeanor changed. “Who took her?”

Sarah’s voice shook. “Grandmother. She sent people to grab Jessa and drag her away.”

David stiffened, his presence suddenly cold and tense.

Just then Sarah spotted Ella coming closer and pointed straight at her. “It was you, Ella! David, someone sent grandmother a picture today. It was of you and Jessa last night at the club. Grandma saw it and lost her mind. She sent people to take Jessa away. Who else could have sent that photo but Ella?”

Ella kept her expression calm, but her mind was racing. Someone had sent a photo to Grandma Chelsea? This was the first she’d heard of it.

Sarah kept going. “David, Ella is ruthless. She knows your grandmother will always take her side. Jessa’s heart is weak. Ella’s trying to use your grandmother to get rid of her.”

As soon as Sarah finished, Ella could feel David’s icy stare lock onto her. He crossed the space between them in just a few steps.

Ella looked right at him. “David, I didn’t do it.”

His voice was cold enough to make her shiver. “Ella, you better hope nothing happens to Jessa.”

He didn’t give her a chance to explain. He turned and walked away fast.

Sarah shot Ella a triumphant look and scurried after David.

Ella’s face drained of color. She knew David didn’t believe her. He was convinced she’d sent that photo. Honestly, she did seem like the obvious suspect.
