The Genius Ex-Wife’s Revenge Portfolio novel Chapter 467

He could still remember the night she first brought up divorce. It was his birthday. She had cooked a whole table’s worth of food and waited for him to come home.

All the things he used to ignore were now gone. With that, David felt this strange emptiness inside him, a dull ache that wouldn’t go away. Maybe this was what it felt like to lose something you never learned to cherish.

He picked up his glass and took a slow sip of water. The cold spread across his tongue and down his throat, but it didn’t do anything to fill the hollow spot inside him.

He’d never known she was Doctor E. Now that he did, he couldn’t help but wonder, if she was really Doctor E, why had she chosen to be by his side?

He thought about that photo of them together at Harvard. And after he became a vegetable, she had walked away from her career at its peak to marry him, to take care of him and nurse him back to life. How much did she really love him, to do all that?

David searched every corner of his memory, but there was nothing. He couldn’t remember ever meeting her before. She was a stranger, at least to his mind.

So when did she fall for him? What started it all?

He wanted so badly to ask her these questions.

It always felt like there was some story between them, something important that had happened and he’d just… forgotten.

A deep, quiet loneliness clung to David’s usually confident frame.

Ella was in the middle of dinner when Wyatt asked, “Ella, what did David want with you just now?”

Ella popped a piece of shrimp into her mouth and shrugged. “No idea.”

Fiona chimed in, “Wyatt, don’t even worry about him. Other than Jessa, he has girls lining up for him. He just has to lift a finger and they come running. Ella should stay far away from all that.”

Lilly nodded, totally on Ella’s side. “Exactly. Ella is Doctor E. People would do anything just to meet her, but she spent three years taking care of him. He was the only one who got that kind of luck, and he didn’t even appreciate it.”

Ella picked up her glass. “Let’s not talk about him anymore. All I want now is to get revenge for my dad. Come on, let’s raise a glass.”

“Cheers.”
