Ella said, “He’s always loved Jessa. All his attention, all his affection, it’s for her. He’s not a player.”

“If you say so,” Wyatt replied. “Come on, let’s go.”

Ella pulled her eyes away and followed Wyatt into the restaurant.

Neither David nor Jessa noticed them. David let go of Jessa’s hand, picked up his knife and fork, and started cutting into his steak with practiced ease. He looked up at her, his tone casual. “Jessa, do you remember the first time we met? In that cave?”
