The Genius Ex-Wife’s Revenge Portfolio novel Chapter 50

Their eyes locked.

Ella met David’s gaze, trying to explain herself. “David, I swear, I didn’t send that photo to your grandma. I won’t admit to something I didn’t do.”

Jessa pulled on David’s sleeve and shot Ella a look. “David, look at her. Even now she’s still making excuses. She doesn’t feel guilty at all.”

David’s stare was cold, not a hint of warmth in it. “Ella, apologize. Right now.”

His words weren’t a request. He was commanding her, making it clear she had to apologize to Jessa.

Ella’s eyes grew red, but she held her head high, her back straight and proud. Her voice was steady, even if her heart was shaking. “David, I’ll say it one more time. I didn’t do it. I won’t apologize for something I didn’t do.”

David’s eyes turned even darker, almost bottomless. “Ella, isn’t your friend Fiona working at a magazine?”

A chill ran right through her, leaving her cold all over. Was he really threatening her friends now?

Jessa and Rachel watched her, both with that satisfied, smug look that made Ella feel even smaller.

She curled her fingers so tightly her knuckles turned white. In that moment, David had crushed every bit of dignity she had left, leaving her to be judged by these two.

Tears threatened to spill, the sting of humiliation burning her eyes. Ella finally whispered, “Jessa, I’m sorry.”

She’d said it. She’d given in.

Jessa’s lips curled into a smile. “I’ll let it go this time. But don’t let it happen again, Ella.”

Rachel jumped in. “You really think hanging on to Grandma Chelsea is enough? Mr. Harmon doesn’t love you.”

Ella felt all the color drain from her face. She went pale, like all the blood had vanished at once.
