The Genius Ex-Wife’s Revenge Portfolio novel Chapter 66

Ella slipped in quietly. No one greeted her. She just stood by the door, silent and out of place while laughter and music filled the room.

Rachel was the first to notice. “Ella, you’re back.”

Every head turned, eyes landing on Ella.

Grandma Jill’s smile vanished. She looked Ella up and down, her expression full of annoyance. “Why is she here?”

Rachel kept her tone light. “Mom, it’s your birthday. I invited Ella.”

Grandma Jill barely glanced at Ella. “I didn’t need her here. Just look at Maureen and Jessa, both so accomplished. Then look at Ella. She’s a country girl who doesn’t belong here. Having her around is just embarrassing me in front of everyone.”

It was no secret. Grandma Jill never liked Ella.

Tonight, Maureen and Jessa were all glammed up, makeup perfect, each trying to outshine the other. They shot Ella a quick, dismissive look, then turned to comfort their grandmother, their voices syrupy sweet. “Grandma, let it go. Ella’s still your granddaughter. We can’t just throw her out.”

“Yeah, Grandma, tonight is your night. Don’t let someone unimportant ruin your mood.”

Grandma Jill’s smile returned. “I only need Maureen and Jessa as granddaughters.”

The message was clear. As far as Grandma Jill was concerned, Ella didn’t count.

Ella felt the cold settle in her chest. Years ago, the Irvine family had nothing. Her father was the one who built their fortune from scratch.

After he made it big, he sent his younger brother Peter to college, making Peter the first in the family to get a degree. He even took his other brother Logan under his wing in the steel business, turning Logan into a big shot.

But after her father passed away, no one mourned him. Instead, they just split up everything he left behind.

They were all living off what her father built.

And Grandma Jill was the sharpest of them all. She only cared about whoever brought the family pride.

Ella watched them, her eyes cold. They took everything from her, and she’d make sure it all slipped through their fingers.
