Aiden nodded. “Yeah.”
In the last few years, the Irvine family had soared, all thanks to David. Grandma Jill, swept up in her newfound love for art and antiques, had been searching everywhere for this particular painting. Now, David had gifted it to her, and she was absolutely thrilled.
The crowd buzzed with excitement, everyone gathering around to admire the masterpiece.
“Mr. Harmon, this is incredible. That painting is one of a kind.”
Grandma Jill beamed, her eyes crinkling with happiness. “Mr. Harmon, you’re so thoughtful.”
Jessa tilted her face up to look at David, admiration written all over her features. There was something irresistible about a man who was not only rich, but also paid such close attention to what mattered to the people around him.
She smiled sweetly. “Thank you, David.”
A few powerful businessmen came over, their eyes twinkling with curiosity. “Mr. Harmon and Ms. Irvine really are a perfect match. Does your appearance at Grandma Jill’s birthday party mean we’ll be hearing wedding bells soon?”
“Probably won’t be long before we’re calling her Mrs. Harmon.”
Peter and Rachel made their way over. Peter’s status wasn’t quite on their level yet, and these same businessmen had just turned down a business deal with the Irvines a few days ago. He put on his best smile. “Mr. Scott, Mr. Lewis, I hope you’ll enjoy yourselves tonight.”
Mr. Scott laughed. “Peter, why don’t you bring that proposal to my office tomorrow? Let’s talk business.”
Peter’s eyes lit up. “Really? Thank you, Mr. Scott. I appreciate it.”
Mr. Lewis grinned. “No need to be so polite, Peter. Not everyone’s lucky enough to have a daughter like Jessa.”
Grandma Jill squeezed Jessa’s hand proudly. “That’s true. Jessa’s our family’s lucky charm.”
Peter and Rachel exchanged satisfied glances. David showing up tonight had pushed the Irvine family to new heights. They could only imagine how much more impressive things would be once he became their son-in-law.
Standing in the middle of all the attention, Jessa felt like she was on top of the world. David was that rare kind of man who could make every girl’s heart race with both his wealth and his devotion.
Jessa’s heart skipped. It was always Ella.
David’s voice was cool, almost indifferent. “No.”
No.
Jessa let out a quiet sigh of relief. She couldn’t even explain why she’d been so worried. David would never fall for someone like Ella, a girl from the countryside.
She looked over at Rachel, who gave her a barely-there nod. The real show Rachel had planned for tonight was about to begin.

Ella carried the empty glasses back to the kitchen. A maid stopped her with a gentle nudge and handed her a bowl. “Take this soup up to the room. Mrs. Rachel Irvine will want it soon.”
The maid was sending her to deliver the soup to Rachel’s room.
