The Pack's Luna: The Pack Series Book 4 novel Chapter 20

Piper

Stupid mate bond! I’ve been perfectly fine on my own, doing my own thing, living my own life. Now, one weekend with Henry, and I feel like I’m ready to burst into stupid tears because I left him behind

It’s not a stupid mate bond. We were meant to be with him, not leaving him, Fallon whines.

‘Fallon, we’ve worked hard to be strong, independent women. I am not turning into some mushy cry-baby just because we met our mate.’

‘He doesn’t want us to be a cry-baby. He and Tyrus seem to like our strength. And the way he looked at us. Piper…’

Yeah. I won’t be forgetting that any time soon. And that’s a big reason why my heart hurts. I finally have someone who looks at me the way I’ve always wanted.

‘What about becoming an elite fighter, Fallon? What about that?’

I could do some elite fighting on my mate, she purrs.

You are not helping! And I’m pretty sure fighting isn’t what you have in mind’

‘It works up a sweat, it causes a lot of panting, and both of us would collapse when we were done. Sounds pretty similar to me.’

I can’t help it, I laugh. I love my wolf.I Love you, too. And Friday can’t come soon enough!

When we get back to the Academy, I know I’ll never be able to focus on homework. Instead, I go to Cyra and Yorick’s new room. Because they have Cyrus now, Alpha Naveah moved them to a quieter part of the dormitories.

When I knock, Yorick answers. I can see Cyra nursing Cyrus inside the room.

“Hey, we just got back, come in. How were things in Quirin’s pack? Did everything go well with Vivienne accepting him as her Alpha?” he asks, stepping aside to let me in.

“Yeah, that went very well,” I say, watching Yorick take Cyrus when he finishes nursing. He begins patting his back to burp him while Cyra puts herself together and comes over to hug me.

She looks at me and whatever she sees on my face has her narrowing her eyes. “Come sit. Tell me about your weekend.”

I look at Yorick, being a perfect father and I immediately think of Henry taking Quirin’s pup inside to change his diaper last night.

“Henry was there,” I say.

Yorick’s eyes flash over to me. “Do you want me to leave so you two can talk?” he asks.

I smile. “No. I’m sure the grapevine will fill you in eventually,” I say.

“Doubtful. Quirin isn’t the gossipy type and Kennedy would only say something if she was concerned. Since we didn’t hear from her, I’m guessing things went well?” he asks.

“I guess you could say they went well. He apparently took that woman back to her pack because he wants a relationship with me.”

“And how do you feel about that?” Cyra asks me.

I sigh. “Confused.”

“What’s confusing?” Yorick asks. I frown as he sits, tucking their son against his body in the same way that Henry did with one of Quirin’s newborns.

“He’s good with kids, like you,” I say, frowning.

“I’ve known Henry my entire life. He’s treated all of us like we are his younger brothers and sisters,” Yorick says, smiling. “I remember before Quirin mated with Kennedy, he could never understand how Henry was so good with us. Henry used to toss Wade and Yvonne around a lot like he does with Kaylee and Kendra now. Come to think of it, l think he still does it with Wade. Yvonne has reached that age where she doesn’t want her hair to get messed up,” he says, rolling his eyes. “Goddess forbid she meets her mate at thirteen and he remembers that a single hair was out of place when they finally turn eighteen.”

He says it with the exasperation of an older brother, but I also know that Yorick adores his siblings.

Yorick’s eyes go unfocused. “I know he had an older brother who died in the pack wars. He lost his mother, and he almost lost his father when he was a teenager. Maybethat’s why family has always been so important to him. know he wants pups, and I also know he’s wanted you, Piper. He just didn’t know who you were. He’s the real deal.”

“Yeah, that’s what Alpha Quirin said too. Maybe not about the family stuff, but | got to witness him with Alpha Quirin’s pups first-hand this weekend. I didn’t know about his family. That must have been very hard for him.”

“So, what’s the plan, Piper. You haven’t said you rejected him, and Rina says that Fallon doesn’t feel weak, so … how did you leave things with him?” Cyra asks me.

I scrub my hands over my face. He’s picking me up on Friday and I’m spending the weekend at his pack.”

Cyra grins at me. “What magic did he have to work to get you to agree to that?”

“Oh my goddess, Cyra. We were sparring this morning, and he did this freakish maneuver where, after I flipped him over my head like Alpha Michael taught us,” I say, looking at Yorick who nods. “Well, he flipped himself right back over and pinned me to the ground!”

“How?” both Yorick and Cyra ask.

“I don’t know! He said if I came to visit him, he’d show me and practice with me until I got it.”

“Damn,” Cyra says, and I can tell she’s trying hard not to smile.

“Wow, I had no idea Henry was that smooth,” Yorick said.”

Although, he’s been dealing with Quirin for years, somaybe it makes sense.”

“I should cancel, but I’m pretty sure Fallon would disown me as her human if I did. And let’s be honest,” I say, looking at Yorick. “I would love to use that move on Menace!”
