The Pack's Luna: The Pack Series Book 4 novel Chapter 21

Henry

Tyrus has been whining in my head since the moment

Piper drove away on Sunday. He is as desperate to see our mate as l am. When I was a younger man, I might had tried to wait until the weekend to see Piper, but I’m old enough that I don’t care if she finds me needy or desperate. I am, for her. I don’t have a lot of experience in relationships, but I’ve been around the Hill women long enough to know they appreciate a man who is honest with them. So, that’s what I’m going to do.

I decided that I would arrive before five o’clock so I could catch her before she went to dinner. Worst case scenario, she refuses to go with me. If she does, I’ll suck it up and come home, but I’ll at least have gotten a chance to see her.

When I arrive, I find a spot near the front door. Her scent lingers in this area and I know I could hunt for her, but I’d rather not make her feel boxed in by showing up at her room. This way, if she really doesn’t want to join me, she doesn’t have to.

I shove my hands in the pockets of my pants and lean against the wall, waiting and listening while I try to catch more of her vague scent.

I hear someone say Hellfire down the hall and my attention snaps in that direction. I feel everything settle inside me when I see her. She looks as rattled as I’ve been

feeling. Hearing her tell Zach that she’s been missing me as much as l’ve been missing her helps to calm me. She’s not as immune to the mate bond as she wants me to think she is.

I’m not even angry that she’s with him, Zach. I know they were close and I’m sure that hasn’t changed. Although, I also know that nothing physical has happened between them. I would have felt it.

“I guess it’s a good thing I came to take you to dinner,” | say, feeling that jolt of electricity when her blue eyes snap up to mine.

“You’re here. What are you doing here?” she asks softly.

“I missed you and I was hoping I could take you to dinner.”

“I’Il see you later, Piper,”Zach says, nodding at me.

“Alpha Zach,” I say, forcing my tone to remain calm and moderate. I’ll give the man credit. He’s not posturing and he isn’t acting like Justine did. I have respect for that.

“Alpha Henry. Enjoy dinner with your mate.”

Damn the man. I might actually start to like him.

I turn back to Piper, since she’s the reason I’m here.

“You drove two hours to take me to dinner?” she asks.

“Two and a half. My pack is farther away than Connor’s.””What if I had plans? What if I’d already eaten?” she asks, frowning.

I push off the wall, closing the distance between us. “It would have been warth it just to see you, to smell your scent, to hear your voice.” My eyes drop to her lips.” Possibly to taste you again.”

Her cheeks flush a pretty pink. I lift a hand and graze my knuckles over her cheek. “Have you eaten already?”

She shakes her head. “No.”

“Would you like to go to dinner with me?”

“Where?”

“Wherever you want. Seafood and steaks, or hamburgers and hotdogs. Lady’s choice.”

“Seafood and steaks sound expensive.”

“You could repay me with a kiss.”

“One kiss and I get seafood and steaks?” she asks, her lips twitching. Oh my mate, ‘ll take you out for seafood and steaks every night if it earns me a kiss.

“It has to be a kiss-and-make-up kiss, not a peck on the lips,” I say. In truth, l’d take either, but I really, really want to taste her again.

She closes the distance between us, sliding her hands up my chest. “I like seafood and steaks.””Then that’s what my mate shall have,” I say, leaning down to press my lips against hers. I wrap my arms around her and surrender to the passion that explodes between us.

My body responds instantly, and | growl possessively as she deepens the kiss. I hold her tightly with one arm, sliding the other into her silky red hair. Her hands fist in my shirt as she presses her body against mine.

“Get a room,” I hear someone say as they walk by. I ignore them and either Piper does as well, or she doesn’t hear them. Either way the kiss continues until I’m surrounded by the scent of her arousal.

When I finally pull away, we’re both panting and her eyes have the glazed look of a woman who has just been thoroughly kissed. Damn, I think I understand why Quirin never kisses Kennedy with anything less than this kind of passion. I want to see this look on Piper’s face every time we kiss.

“You taste better than I remember,” I growl.

“So do you,” she says. She sighs, still leaning against me. ” Stupid mate bond. I feel much better now,” she grumbles.

“So do I. Shall we go get something to eat?”

“Sure,” she says. I turn, wrapping an arm around her waist.

“Do you know a place, or should I look one up?”
