The appetizers arrive as I tell Piper about my pack. I thought she might get bored, but she seems thoroughly interested, especially when I tell her about the structure of the pack.

“We’re a smaller pack, only around a hundred and twenty-five pack members and most of them are my age and younger,” I say.

“Why is that?”

“Pack wars. Back when my father was Alpha, we were constantly in pack wars. We were fighting against everyone, even Alpha Warren. Thank the goddess for him and Luna Yara,” I say.

“What do you mean?” she asks, using her fingers to dip her crab meat into the melted butter before putting into her mouth. Before she can get more, 1 grab her hand and hold her gaze as I slide her fingers into my mouth, licking off the buttery goodness. I take longer than necessary, sliding my tongue on the underside of her fingers before sucking on them as I pull them out of my mouth.

I have the satisfaction of watching her eyes darken with the same desire that I’m feeling.

Since we are in a restaurant, I gently suck the lobster from her grasp, licking her fingers clean again. Then, it’s my turn.

I take some of the crab meat that she was enjoying, dip it in the butter, and hold it out for her. The moment her mouth goes around my fingers and her tongue begins to tease the crab out of my fingers, my cock goes rock hard.

I growl, grabbing the wine and taking a heavy sip before forcing my brain to think.

“Alpha Warren is the one who approached my father about an alliance. Dad didn’t trust anyone back then. I didn’t know it at the time, but he was dying. His injuries weren’t healing. He was afraid to trust the wrong person and end up getting himself and me killed, and the pack overthrown.”

“How old were you?” she asks, sipping her own wine.

“Twelve. Not old enough to take over, especially not with Brady, Quinton, and Thomas attacking every day or so.”

“You said your father was dying, but he’s still alive today.”

“That’s where Luna Yara came in. She realized my father was dying and she healed him. She actually came to our pack and healed most of our warriors. She’s an amazing woman.”

“And a hugger,” Piper says, making me laugh.

“You get used to it. And from her, it just feels right.””Zach calls her Luna Murmur,” she says, smiling before realizing what she said.

I force down the jealousy that threatens to swell inside me. “It’s a good name for her.”

She watches me for a moment, making sure I’m not going to explode, then nods.

“Has she always been like that?”

“Ever since I met her. It’s sort of a family joke now. You have to be careful what secrets you tell Luna Yara. It’s not even that she doesn’t have a filter, she just doesn’t realize she’s talking out loud,” I say smiling.

. The conversation stops when our dinner arrives. Then

Piper looks thoughtful.

“Can I ask you a personal question?”

“You can ask me anything,” I say.

“I heard that you had an older brother, and that you lost him and your mother. How did that happen, if you don’t mind me asking.”

“I don’t mind. I told you, I don’t want any secrets between us.”
