The Pack's Luna: The Pack Series Book 4 novel Chapter 38

Piper

I decided I didn’t want to ruin the residual happiness of spending the weekend with Henry by calling my father back on Monday, so instead, cleared a space on my floor, put one of my books in front of me, set a timer, and put myself into a plank.

I realized that, unlike my mate, I can’t use distraction to get me through this. I’ve just about decided that I can’t do anymore when there’s a knock at my door.

“Come in!”I yell.

“What the fuck are you doing, Hellfire?” Zach asks.

“How long can you hold a plank?”

“I don’t know, l’ve never tried. Why?”

“Henry has ridiculous core strength. He said he once held a plank for an hour but then had to get back to work.”

“How long have you been in your plank?” he asks.

I Look at the timer. “Eighteen minutes.”

“Uh, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, Hellfire, but you aren’t going to make it to an hour.”

He’s right, my body is shaking so hard I’ll be lucky to make it to twenty minutes.”He stayed in a plank, hovering over my body and kissing me like it was nothing. His body didn’t move, didn’t flinch, didn’t shake. What the hell?” I say, dropping to the floor and rolling over, pressing my hands to my aching stomach. “How does he do it?”

Zach shrugs. “Don’t know but I’m guessing that old guy still has some life left in him,” he says, grinning at me.

“You have no idea. Did you need something?” I ask, having to roll to my side to push myself back up to a sitting position.

“Well, I think you answered my question already. I wanted to’see how your weekend went. I noticed that you aren’t marked, but it sounds like everything went well.”

“It did,” I say, gesturing for Zach to sit at my desk. Since he’s used to my mess, he moves the clothes on the chair to my desk and sits.

I sit on my bed and look at my friend. “He’s everything | ever dreamed of, Zach. Everything. Even the things that I never thought l’d get in a mate. He’s everything,” I say, thinking of how absolutely perfect Henry is.

“I’m really glad, Piper. You deserve the best and it’s good to see three of you finding your mates and watching how perfect our mates are for us. I hope I find mine soon.

Maybe after I beat you for the position on the Alpha Squad, I’ll have an opportunity to find her,” he says grinning. When I don’t immediately push back with a snarky comment, he raises an eyebrow. “You are still going for the Alpha Squad, aren’t you?”

“I don’t know anymore. He just left this morning, and I already miss him so much it hurts. I can’t wait to talk to him tonight. I can’t wait to see him on Wednesday, and we haven’t even marked each other yet. Can you imagine how much harder it will be once we’re marked.”

“But this was your dream, Piper.”

“I know. I know it was. And Henry is being amazingly supportive of that. But Zach, I’ve never felt so at home as l did in his pack this weekend. The pack members accepted me with open arms. It felt … good. 1 didn’t know a pack could feel that way, my father and brother’s pack never felt like that to me.”

Just then, my phone rings. “Speak of the devil and guess who’s calling,” I grumble when I look at the caller ID.

“Are you going to answer it?” he asks.

“He’s been calling all weekend. Whatever it is, I’m sure l won’t like it, and it will be a fight. I’m going to wait one more day until the glow of Henry is completely gone before I ruin my mate buzz.”

Zach and I talk a little bit longer, then after he leaves, l strip and crawl into bed. I study until Henry calls, then I open a video chat and I’m rewarded with his possessive growl when he sees me naked. Our phone orgasms aren’t nearly as good as the ones when we’re together, but hearing his voice in my ear helps me to relax enough so I can sleep. So does the shirt he left hidden in my bed.
