Piper
When Henry calts, I’m still stressed out about the call with my father and Henry picks up on it right away.
“What’s going on, Piper?” he asks.
I sit at my desk and tell him about my call with my father.
“First, your father and brother would be fools to go against Quirin. He’s as deadly when someone comes for his pack as he is when they come for his family. Second, we need to figure out why your father is so interested in controlling Vivienne. There’s something going on that you aren’t privy to. Vivienne most likely isn’t either. Whatever it is, we need to know so we can battle whatever your father is planning for Vivienne.”
I smile. He said ‘we’.
He looks at me, understanding immediately. “You’re not alone, Piper. I’m with you, no matter what.”
I run my fingers over his face on my phone screen. “How do you suggest that | get the information about why my father is trying to control Vivienne?”
“Don’t you know a Hacker?” he asks, grinning. “Do you know if he’s still hacked into your phones? If so, and he hears us talking about him, he’ll know we want to hire him. Whatever the cost, Piper, I’ll pay it. Of course, once Qfinds out, he’ll probably pay for it, but either way, don’t let money be an issue.”
There’s a knock at my door.
“Hang on,” I say, opening the door to Hacker..
“The answer is yes, I still get notifications when certain words are said on your phone. So, what did you want to hire me to do?” he asks.
“Come in,” I say.
“Geez woman, how many clothes do you have and are any of them in the closet?” he asks, looking around. “Hey, Alpha Henry,” he says, glancing at my screen.
“Hello, Hacker.”
We explain what we need and answer Hacker’s questions, mostly about Vivienne’s past.
“She was a rogue. Her mom died. She came to our pack when she was about sixteen and left when I came to the Academy. updated by j_ob{nib}.(co)mShe renounced my brother as her Alpha and basically lived on the streets until just recently when she joined Alpha Quirin’s pack. That’s really all I know about her. Rogues aren’t exactly forthcoming about their pasts.””Last name?” he asks.
“Abbott.”
“Your father’s name?””Glenn Conley.”
“It should be a simple thing to find the connection between them. If you’re both in agreement, I can use this as a training opportunity for Sphinx which means it will cost you less,” he says.
“Money isn’t an issue,” Henry says immediately.
“This will be a new skill for her to learn, so it will take her Longer than it would take me. But if you’re okay giving us a few days, I’ll see what we can find.”
Hook at Henry.
“Let’s give them time. I’d rather you wait to talk to Vivienne until I’m there tomorrow anyway. I want to be there to support you, baby.”
I nod. In the past, I would have pushed through because I didn’t have any other choice. But now, I have Henry and would feel better having his support.
“Okay, we’ll get started then. I’ll touch base when I have something. Who is the bill going to, you, Alpha Henry, or Alpha Quirin?”
“Just send it to me,” Henry says.
“Thanks, Hacker,” I say, walking him to the door.
When he’s gone, I look back at Henry. “Thanks, Henry.”
“I’m just doing what mates do, Piper.”The next day when Henry arrives, I let him know that I ordered takeout to be delivered.
“I thought about it on the drive over, Piper. I think we should call Quirin and tell him we need to talk to both of them together. If this sends her spiraling for some reason, he’ll want to be there for her. As an Alpha, I wouldn’t appreciate someone giving one of my pack members unsettling news without letting me know so I could be there to support them,” he says while we eat.
Because I am so stressed out about this phone call, l actually cleaned my room and made space for us to eat at my desk.
My mate, sensing my distress, pulled me into his lap and Tyrus purred at me, helping me to get some food down.
When I can’t eat any more, Henry pulls out his phone.
