Piper
I swear I felt my heart pulling away from my body and leaving with Henry. That’s what it felt like anyway, leaving an emptiness inside me at the loss.
I feel my friend wrap her arm around me. “How many hours until you see him again?” Cyra asks.
“Too many,” I say, still feeling Henry in my mind as he drives off. I know the mind link will eventually be too far for even that connection, but it helps knowing that we’re still connected a little for now.
*I make it through sparring class, and I hold my own, but I realize my heart isn’t in it any longer. I want to be a strong warrior, but I don’t want to live a life away from Henry.
When class is over, I approach Alpha Michael.
“I was wondering when you were going to come talk to me,” he says.
I smile and look down before meeting his gaze. “I had to figure things out for myself first.”
He gestures for me to sit on one of the concrete half walls, sitting beside me and giving me his undivided attention.” And what have you figured out?”
“My priorities have changed, Alpha. Now that I’ve found my mate, now that things between us have improvedfrom our initial meeting, I don’t like being away from him.”
“Ive noticed you’ve been a bit distracted, Piper.”
I nod. “It’s hard, sir. It’s hard wanting to be with him and not being able to. It’s hard now that I’ve been to his pack, our pack,” I correct myself, smiling. “You saw my father and brother. Those are the kind of men, the kind of Alphas, I was raised with. I didn’t know that a pack could feel different than the one I’d always been part of. But my pack with Henry is so different. It’s welcoming, loving, kind, confident, supportive… it’s everything I’ve ever wanted in a pack and Henry is everything I’ve ever wanted in a mate.”
“What about your dream of becoming an elite fighter?
Where does that fit in all of this?”
“That’s why I wanted to talk with you, Alpha. Is there a place for me on an elite fighting team that doesn’t take me away from my mate and pack?” I ask.
“There’s the C-Squad. You know they have one opening, Piper. You could go against Yorick for that position.”
I shake my head. “Not like that, Alpha. Yorick is planning to be a part-time Alpha and a full-time elite fighter. I want to know if it possible to be a full-time Luna and a part-time elite fighter.”
“You mean if a situation required more squad members than what we have, or if someone unexpectedly went out, you could fill in temporarily?” he asks thoughtfully.”Yes, something like that.”
“We’ve never done that before, Piper. But that doesn’t mean it’s nat a good idea. Things happen, injuries occur, she-wolves get pregnant unexpectedly, and it puts the squads at a disadvantage because we have to pull from the other squads if they aren’t already busy. If they are, then our squads run light and that’s when we put our teams at risk. Let me talk to Raptor, Javelin, and Saber,” he says, his eyes going unfocused as he thinks. “If we did this, you’d have to continue your training, and the elite squads do heavy training twice a week. You’d have to be willing to come here twice a week for a half day of training, but | like this idea. I like it a lot actually. I’ll talk to them. We may want to meet with you later this week.”
“I’m here until Friday afternoon. Henry comes to see me on Wednesday evenings so our wolves don’t get too restless, but he would understand if that was the best time to meet with you,” I say excitedly.
“T’ll let you know. And for the record, Piper, Raptor is going to be unhappy for the second time this year. He wasn’t happy that Yorick wanted to switch to C-Squad, and he’ll be just as unhappy that you are no longer in the running for Alpha Squad. He’s been watching you closely. copied from j-o-b-n-ib-.c-om.He was impressed with how you stood up to your father and brother, and frankly, so was I. Not everyone would have been able to do that.”
I shrug. “I have a lot of support. It makes it easier to stand up to the ones who want to bring you down.””I’m not sure that’s always true, Piper. But then, you’ve shown me that you’re a strong woman ever since l arrived at this Academy. Go get some lunch before you miss it, and I’ll let you know when we’re ready to meet.”
“Thank you, Alpha.”
That night when Henry calls, I can barely wait to tell him. ” It might work, Henry! I might be able to maintain some sort of position on an elite squad and still live in our pack full time.”
“That’s amazing, Piper. I would love that for you. Then, when you were ready to have a pup, you could take a break but get back into it once our pup was born. I know you, you’d spring back into the powerful fighter you are very quickly,” he says.
“Well, I have been working on my core strength,” I say.
“I might have noticed that when we were together this weekend.”
“You did?” I ask excitedly.
“I did, especially when you were riding me. You’ve always had your hands on my chest for leverage, and you didn’t need it this weekend. It was sexy as fuck watching you ride me like the queen you are,” he growls.
“A lot of that is lower body strength, Alpha,” I purr.
“Some of it is, but being able to hold yourself up, holding your hair off your body so I could see every inch of myfucking playground, that was core strength. And don’t get me started on when I had you bent over and you didn’t need to hold on to anything to stay at just the perfect angle for me fuck you hard the way you like.”
“You’re making me very wet, Alpha.”
“Good, because I’m so fucking hard, I feel like I’m going to burst.”
After we’ve both found our release several times, I curl up with the shirt he left me.
“So, what are we doing on Wednesday when you come vişit me?” I ask.
