The Heir And The Servent Started From A Bet novel Chapter 112

Chapter 112

Mia had started to relax.

The music thumped softly in the background, and voices buzzed like harmless static around her. At first, everything had felt too loud, too rich, too much. But now, it wasn’t as bad as she had imagined it would be when she stepped down from the limousine.

Mia tugged at the end of her dress, her fingers brushing over the soft fabric as she tried to steady her nerves.

She didn’t belong here. She knew it. But Alex made her feel like maybe, just maybe, she wasn’t just some girl who accidentally stumbled into someone else’s world.

Then her eyes found Zoe across the room.

Her heart jumped.

It wasn’t fear-not anymore. Maybe once upon a time, yes. Zoe used to terrify her in the way only someone who enjoyed breaking others down could. But that fear had faded now, worn thin by everything Mia had endured.

She wasn’t scared of Zoe.

She just didn’t want trouble.

Not tonight.

Not here.

Please, she begged herself silently, just stay calm. Don’t let this ruin the night. Don’t make it bigger than it has to be.

Zoe was staring at them, her sharp eyes like cold fire from across the room.

And then, without even pretending to hide it, she started walking towards them, her heels clicking confidently against the marble floor. She wore a white dress that clung to her body like it was sewn directly onto her skin. Elegant. Bold. Intimidating.

Mia’s chest tightened, and her eyes flicked to Alex. Did he see her?

He did.

Alex didn’t flinch. He took another sip of his wine, completely unfazed, and when his eyes met Mia’s, he smiled a little and winked.

It caught her off guard.

She chuckled.

Just like that, some of the tension left her shoulders. His calmness was contagious. She didn’t know how he did it-how he always stayed cool even when things burned around him.

Zoe’s heels clicked closer. Behind her, her ever-present friend followed like a shadow. Mia didn’t even know the girl’s name. She didn’t care.

Zoe stopped in front of them like she owned the ground they stood on.

“Alex Blackwell,” Zoe said, her voice dripping with false sweetness.

Zoe, Alex replied smoothly.

Mia could already hear it in Zoe’s voice-that edge, that bite, that need to make a scene.

“It’s not enough that you’ve embarrassed me walking around town with her,” Zoe said, not even glancing at Mia. “You had to bring her here, too?”

Alex gave a short laugh, amused, like she had just told a joke. “Embarrassed you?” he said. “Zoe, I suggest you stop connecting everything I do to you life. I have nothing to do with you anymore.”

Zoe tilted her head, the corners of her lips lifting into a cruel smile.

“I can’t count how many times you’ve said that, Alex,” she said. “This is going to be just like all the other times you thought you could walk away from me.”

She ran a hand through her hair, pushing it back like she was preparing for battle. “Although,” she added with a mocking sigh, “I hate that you’re not including me in whatever game this little charade is with a Turner.”

Mia felt it then-that sudden twist in her chest. The way Zoe said “Turner,” like it was an insult.

Alex chuckled again, shaking his head.

“Delusional Zoe,” he said softly. “I thought you were smarter than this. No-shoo, go away. Go away. Your presence is annoying me.”

The words were light, sarcastic. But they had weight. Zoe flinched, just a little. Enough that Mia noticed.

But she didn’t back off.

Instead, she turned her gaze-those sharp eyes-on Mia, and when she spoke next, her voice was colder.

“Just like the thought of touching this thing irritated you… and now look at you,” she sneered.

Thing.

She had called her a thing.

It hit Mia harder than she expected.

She didn’t flinch. She didn’t look away. But her heart stung. Like someone had quietly reached in and scraped at something already sore.

She wanted to pretend it didn’t affect her. She really did.

But it did.

She wants to say something that will hurt her as well.

Mia is honestly good at exchanging the meanest words. Her sisters always call her out on it.

She is very good at matching poison for poison. Hurtful words for hurtful words.

She stares Zoe, the words she wants to say already playing in her head,

Alex stepped forward. His voice was low, but firm now. There was no laughter in it this time.

Watch your mouth, Zoe.”

Oh please,” Zoe scoffed.

Alex looked at her, really looked at her, and whatever fondness once existed between them had long died. It was nothing but

ashes now.

“You know what your problem is?” he said, voice sharp as a blade. “You think everyone owes you something. like you’re important”

“I am important”

“Whatever you say Zoe”

Zoe’s lips curled, but she didn’t reply. She stood still, chest rising and falling fast. For a moment, it looked like she might

scream.

Then she smiled.

A cruel, fake smile.

“Whatever this is,” she said, motioning vaguely between them, “it won’t last. You know it, I know it, she knows it. You’re just bored, Alex. You always get bored.”

Alex hummed softly under his breath, not even bothering to spare Zoe another glance.

Without looking away from Mia, he stretched his hand toward her, palm open, eyes gentle. “Do you want to dance, pretty?”

Mia froze.

That one word-pretty-sent a soft flutter through her chest, and her cheeks flushed instantly. The blush crept up her neck, warm and impossible to hide.

She glanced at the people dancing-graceful couples gliding across the floor like they’d been doing this all their lives. She had practiced a few steps, just in case, but still… she wasn’t confident.

Her fingers tightened against her dress. What if she messed up? What if everyone stared?

“Come on,” Alex urged gently, as though he could hear her thoughts. He took her hand before she could protest. His touch was steady, reassuring. Warm.

Mia hesitated for only a breath longer before nodding.

And just like that, they were moving.

Behind them, Zoe stood stiff as a statue, her eyes practically burning holes into their backs. Her mouth was set in a bitter line, but Alex didn’t even look. He guided Mia to the dance floor as though no one else existed in the room.

For a second, she thought she might trip over her own feet, and panic bloomed in her chest-but Alex was there. His hand held hers firmly, his other hand resting gently at her waist. He knew exactly where to lead, and she let herself follow.

Then it happened.

She almost stepped on him.

Her heel caught awkwardly on the floor, and she gasped, wobbling forward. But Alex was quick. He pulled her in closer,

catching her just before she could stumble.

Way to go Mia

“I got you,” he whispered, his voice low and close, the warmth of his breath brushing her hair.

Mia let out a nervous laugh, cheeks still warm with embarrassment. But when she looked up at him, she found him smiling softly, his eyes dancing with quiet affection.

Her heart beat a little louder in her chest.

“I’m sorry,” she whispered.

He shook his head. “Don’t be. You’re perfect.”

They moved slowly at first. She followed his lead, her steps small and unsure, but Alex never rushed her. He guided her gently, as if the music played only for them. The rest of the world began to blur.

Mia could feel it now.

The rhythm.

The closeness.

The safety.

Every time their bodies moved together, every time their eyes locked, something deep inside her softened. She didn’t feel small in his arms. She didn’t feel out of place anymore. She felt wanted.

And seen.

Her voice came quiet, barely above a whisper.

“Did you really hate me that much?”
